I don't get it...

I figured I'd start out Monday morning with a question.  What don't you get?

Here's what I don't get...

This whole cocoon baby thing.  What is with the knitted hats and sacks as outfits for newborn photo shoots?  Can someone explain this to me.  Yeah I guess that kids look pretty cute, but it's also borderline creepy to me.  I'm not judging anyone who has had these photos taken, I just don't get it!   How did it start?!  Is it just another photo fad like DD & MB pointed out with mustaches and "planking"?

I'll try to come back and play tomorrow morning but it'll depend on how busy I am at work.  The other VP I've been helping out until his new assistant starts is off tomorrow so I only have my VP which means things should be a little less busy...in theory, but it is a Monday after all so we'll see how it goes.

  • Doy he's a pea in a pod!!

In all seriousness, I just think it's cute. But I think it's becoming too popular. The photog had this and stuck him in it. His other crocheted (sp?) outfit isn't like the normal ones. It was made for him by my MIL so we got a picture in all of it for her.

Ahah i loved that. I haven't heard 'Doy' in a while, I'll join you in bringing it back. I think those are super cute, I think it's kind of like the 'bundle of joy' thing.

I don't get why when tourists are driving down the road, theres always pointing and slowing and stopping... and all I want to do is get to work, or get home, or get to the grocery store, and everyone has to stop and stare at every putt-putt or every seafood restaurant and slow down to like 30 or 40... let everyone else look out their windows and you drive... if you really want to see everything, let someone else drive tomorrow and you can look then.

I also don't get why people ask where you work like it defines who you are. I've come to terms with the fact that I'm not going to be that girl with the great VP job. I've always wanted to just raise kids in a beautiful house and make delicious food. I wait tables because I can make a lot of money in a really short amount of time so I can spend my time doing what I love to do. I'd rather hate my job and come home to a family that I love than the other way around. I feel like my friends from MD make college/jobs define who they are in the world and how important you are and that's just not that important to me. It's just what I do to pay bills. Work to live, not live to work.

  • I don't really get them either, but they are cute.

I think maybe it started as something that makes baby more comfortable? I don't know. It looks similar to swaddling, but more "photogenic" I guess. Swaddling usually keeps newborns more comfortable and quiet, so maybe that was part of the thought proccess behind the cocoon look.

I don't know that I'll stick my kid in one, but I fully intend to use a crocheted hat. Those are stinking cute. I already have my eye on an owl one on Etsy. Just waiting to find out boy or girl.

I'm in the I don't get it but it's cute camp too. I agree it's a little bizarre to dress a newborn up in outfits that are clearly just for photographs, like they're dolls or something.

Of course, I can't guarantee I won't totally eat my words when I have kids. Heh.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • Okay so pee in the pod is adorable :) I love the crocheted owl hat. As some may know I took pics of Alex in a giraffe hat for his three month pics. So cute/ridiculous hats I'm on board with lol.

I agree with this. I think the cocoons, crazy croched hats, and big headbands are cute, but I think it's becoming overdone and just "too much." I saw pics the other day of a baby in a plain white onesie, and they were just so simple and sweet and refreshing.

  • I think the cocoons are adorable. I fully intend to have my baby's picture taken in one of those....also, a fluffy pink tutu:) Of course we'll have some plain pictures too, but I'm definitely going to dress her up for some of them.

  • I also think the cocoons are adorable.  Especially the tiny turtle one someone posted.

Here's my current obsession: tiny baby formalwear.  Specifically of the ultra preppy Nordstrom variety.  Of course, no one needs to spend $85 on a blazer that will fit baby nephew for .2 seconds, but it would be sooo cute for his christening.

What I don't get: Old fashioned nonsense, like forms in carbon triplicate.  I could email, fax, scan, mail, etc. and any of these would be easier than requesting a new form because this one is effed up from being mailed a thousand miles.

  • I'm a bit late with this, but I really don't get the manbabies thing. The pictures freak me out an aren't funny at all.

Some of them make me lol but a lot of them are pretty creepy looking! I don't get it either really. I would like to know who he first person to do that was though...
  • Totally not baby related:

I don't get those shoes that look like shoes but are really sandals.  Like, they lace up like sneakers, but the heel and back are missing.  Or they have the heel and front like a shoe, but the toes are missing.  WTF?

  • The baby cocoons might be getting cliche, but they're cute and do serve a purpose.  It kept Kyler totally quiet and in a deep sleep for most of the photos.  It's just like swaddling.

And of course, I'm biased.  See sig pic. ;)
