sitting down at the dinner table.
Re: sitting down at the dinner table.
It depends on how messy our dinner is. Soup = at the table with TV on. Chicken and veggies = on the couch watching TV. We have a tiny living/dining combo so the TV is equal distances to the couch and table.
Also, "fancy" meals get eaten at the table.

My blog about starting over, dating, life and all of its awkward moments.
I chose "Always at the table" but in our house when we have DSS we always eat at the breakfast table. When it's DH and I, we eat breakfast at the bar (place settings and no tv view), lunch and dinner at the table.
The only time we eat in the living room is the occasional popcorn with a movie.
Sometimes we turn the tv on to the news if we're cooking a longer dinner, but that's the only time the tv is on when we're eating. You can't see it from anywhere we sit, which is my preference. We had a tv in the kitchen two houses ago and all DSS did was stare at the tv while we ate- it drove me nuts. "A, take a bite." It's been five minutes, take another bite.
we make the dinner/bring it in from the car and head straight to the home theatre room. we usually watch shows we've recorded during this time. (ex. we've been OOT, so last night during dinner, we watched the season finale of "game of thrones".)
dh grew up in a family who ate around the table, with no tv, but my family ate in front of the tv most of the time. my dad worked on call while i was growing up, so he wasn't always home for dinner and things were pretty relaxed.
if we had kids, i would probably clean off the kitchen table of non-food related items and maybe try to eat there regularly, but we don't, so no dice.
It depends on what kind of meal it is and what kind of day either of us have had. There are some days when all DH or I want to do is veg out in front of the tv and those usually mean more casual dinners. Also, sometimes I make tacos or fajitas that require a lot of sides on the table and our coffee table can't fit more than a couple of plates.
My only "rule" is that if I put a lot of effort into the dinner, it gets eaten at the table. I get to be the judge of how much effort I put in so sometimes I pick the table just because it's been a while.
we are 50/50 on the location. If we are at the table I usually have music on in the background or the tv so low you can hear the noise but not the words. I cant stand nothing on in the background.
And we go through spurts of being in one location more than the other. If DH or I have been working alot ( meaning we havent really seen each other) we sit at the table to catch up. We are pretty aware when we need that time to talk, and when it would just be us gazing into each others eyes
This is pretty much what we do. I prefer to eat at the table, but for the last few months, my DH has needed to ice and elevate his knee after work, which means we eat at the couch a lot.
We eat at the dinner table with the TV off. However, we didn' start doing this until after DS#1 was born. Before that, we were an eat-at-the couch kind of couple.
