I'm just whining.
I had a second interview last Thursday, and I know they called my references Monday. The job is gone from the web today. I'm giving it till tomorrow before I write it off, but I'm kind of bummed because I let myself entertain the idea of a 20-40 minute commute yesterday (a reality when you factor in traffic; its 25 miles from C's job so we'd live in the middle) and looked at houses online in more towns without obsessing over train proximity.
I suppose its a good thing I've had three second interviews since starting this job - all for higher level positions than I've ever interviewed for, and more than all of last year - but woe, to be a finalist and never a winner, hah.
this is very much a cry-me-a-river situation given that my current job is ok and has excellent benes, etc, but blah.

I am sorry Em. Maybe they took it down b/c your references checked out and you are getting the job offer.
Sending good vibes your way.
this is where i was last year. I applied to about 50 jobs (in a pretty wide range of roles, just looking to move; I can't blame most of them for not calling me!). I had 5 (6?) interviews, all of which were between August and November. No second interviews. (I thought my current job HATED me; I was here 25 minutes. Needless to say, it has continued to be a bizarre, if not unpleasant, structure/environment). I've actually been interviewed for 60% of what I've applied to this year (looking for higher level positions, in a narrower geographic range). Now I'm starting to think I'm screwing myself out of getting something there in a year or two by interviewing with too many folks and not getting jobs, like the Deans and HRs will remember my name or something.
It is just annoying. The market is so tight in higher ed. one of my friends who is a scientist (PhD) got laid off 3 weeks ago, had 3 interviews the next week and already has an offer. Stupid budgets and all i guess?
This! It's only Wednesday, don't write it off just yet. Crossing my fingers for you!
Yeah, it's not over just yet. My new university took down the ad before I was made the offer.

I hope this is the case for you!!!
I just spent (a pathetic) 30 minutes on their HR site and it says offers have to be approved by the office of diversity (huh?) first, so I guess I can hold out hope till tuesday. then I'll let it go.
Is it weird I'm somewhat bummed because I told myself if I got an offer I could order something from the Boden sale?
