We have been really strict on who can/can't drive Elsie around, we're just not comfortable with it. My MIL, dh and I are the only ones she's ever rode with. And MIL has been mostly just to pre-school and back to daycare, less than 2 miles away.
I dropped her off this morning at my mom's house and installed E's car seat in my mom's car. I have this fear that something will happen if mom takes her outside of Gretna (which mom assured me they would just be going to the grocery store, but still, they have to cross the hwy).
So when did you let grandparents or others tote your kids around?
Am I being too much of one of those mom's (as my parents kind of made me feel like when I balked about this)?
Re: Other people driving your kid(s)
Our parents haven't driven Sawyer around yet just my SIL. I don't think I would have a problem only because they drive the other grandkids and things are fine. Plus, my mom drove me around just fine.
Now with that, I know right now, my mom would be nervous to drive Sawyer just because he is seen as fragile.
I would see more concern if your parents are up in their late 70s and in their 80s as I think some individual's ability to drive deteriorates.
Well, my mom is our daycare, so she started driving K when she was only a few months old, but I had major anxiety about it. I still do.
My sisters and my SIL drive my girls quite a few places. I always have a sick feeling in my stomach until I hear that they are okay.
This summer we had a 17 year old nanny for us while I took some classes. She had to drive the girls to gymnastics about 4 miles from our house. I was such a wreck at class (and my husband was worrying at work) that I changed their class to an evening class.
I don't think it is ever easy to let you kids ride with someone else-I know my family members are good drivers. I figure my sisters and SIL are also driving their own kids so I know they will be safe.
I am such an anxious fruit loop about other things I can't believe I'm not all worried about this too, but I don't really worry about my Mom driving him places. I guess my ILs drove my older son once too. They are all responsible people & I know would take good care of my boys. I'm sure they are better drivers than I am, though that's not saying much.
I do get a little nervous about all the field trips they go on from preschool (in the summer they go on 3 trips/week) but I followed them in their van once when we were going on a field trip since I didn't know where the place was, and the teacher drove very carefully like a little old lady. That made me feel better.
My parents took DD out of town a few weeks after DS was born. I installed the carseat (even reinstalled it because I didn't like the way DH did it!). My parents know carseat safety if one of my top priorities so I think they knew they better do it right.
I guess at one point my mom was putting DD in and thought she had the straps a little too tight. She made a comment to my dad that they needed to loosen them because DD wouldn't be able to breath. DD apparantly took this huge breath right then and said "nope Grandma, I can breath, see?" so they left them.

I have bad anxiety about car accidents, but my mom has been driving Addison for a while. I still get nervous each time I put her seat in. I make my mom call me as soon as they arrive home.
I think she has been driving her since she was about 2ish.
