XP: Need hotel and restaurant recs
My girlfriends and I are coming to Atl next month and need a hotel w/ a pool and a good restaurant to go to. There will be between 12-20 of us, depending on how many husbands come with us. I think some of the girls are coming up on Friday night and then husbands and a few others will come Saturday night to go out to dinner. Bonus points if the restaurant is w/in walking distance of the hotel.
We want something fun, not too expensive, but no chain restaurants. I'm thinking maybe the W hotel in Midtown?
Thanks for any suggestions!
Re: XP: Need hotel and restaurant recs
The W in midtown is really nice. There is also Hotel Indigo, The Marriot Renaissance, it used to be a Palomar, is nice. A Loews is also in Midtown.
The W, though is in a good location. You are walking distance to the park as well as many local restaurants. Crescent avenue which is nearby has some great restaurants. The Highland Bakery nearby on 14th is also really good for breakfast.
I live in Midtown and there are a lot of great places around here to eat.
If you stay at the W in Midtown, just don't eat at Spice Market in the hotel. We have eaten there twice, and both times were very disappointing. Why we went again after we didn't like it the first time... I have no clue. There are so many good restaurants in that area! There is Vini Vidi Vici and South City Kitchen nearby. Also, for a more casual meal, there is Tap. I haven't been in several years, but when I did go, it was very good.
Hotel Indigo might be another nice choice.
what she said.
I stayed at the Loew's last month. I was impressed. Didn't love the restaurant. There's tons nearby and good bars within walking distance. I've stayed at the Indigo too - the P'tree St facing room had a nicer view (we were across from eachother) and the parking lot view left much to be desired. But the Fox was right there. Good location.

I was going to say the same thing. Good location and restaurants nearby. And the thing about Spice Market - it looks like a cool place but the food is not good. Also, don't play around near the windows...there was an incident there recently.
I've heard good things about the st. regis and their pool area. there is a nice restaurant there and others around there.
Adventures of A Girl and Her Apron
Thanks ladies. Dinner is still up in the air but we decided to stay at the W Midtown.
And p.s. what do you mean there was an incident near the window?!!
Adventures of A Girl and Her Apron
yeahhhhhhhh.... I was going to say something too, but I figured you knew about it. I wouldn't worry about safety, but I wouldn't lean on the windows either.

Well holy f*ck. No, I didn't know about it. I live in Augusta and I didn't hear anything about it on the news or in our paper.
Good to know, you probably just saved one of our lives.
Dinner -South City Kitchen
Brunch - Einsteins. I love this place too!
~~~MARRIED BIO~~~
I live next door to the hotel and have a friend who works there. There were 8-10 people in that room and there was a big brawl going on, a table broke the window and the girls fell out after that. One was trying to save the other. The W released a story that wouldn't sound as bad! The hotel had been having trouble with them all weekend. Don't worry about saftey! I'm sure you and your friends won't be throwing any tables out the window.
I agree with all previous suggestions-- except we go used to go to Einstein's a lot, but got disappointed with food and service too many times.
Other places I don't think got mentioned:
Piola (best Italian), Ra (sushi), RiRa (irish bar), TAP (gastropub), The Nook (cute lil bar) -- all those places are within walking distance of the W.
Have fun!
Thanks for the info. I assumed there was more to the story but it is still good to know we probably should not pick that weekend to go around throwing any tables
We'll keep an eye out for those Augusta folk. I hear they can get crazazayyyyy....
You have no idea
For a bunch of 30something housewives w/ 27 kids between the 12 of us, we can still turn it out every now and then. I.Can't.Wait!
We're planning to spend all day Friday at the pool so I'll let y'all know when we firm up plans and maybe some of you can swing by and say hello!
I've been part of these bords for over 5 years and I've only met a handful of nesties/bumpies.
