Getting House Company Ready
Do any of you have a cleaning list that you go by?
I love using stumbleupon.com to search for cleaning routines... so because I'm the kind of freak that likes to look at other people's cleaning routines, I shared my own in my blog. (Link in sig)
What are some things you make sure to remember to do before company comes to stay for the weekend? Does it make a difference who the company is?
This weekend my oldest friend is coming with her husband and 2 daughters, 1 is about 6 weeks old and the other is about 19 months old. Especially for having a small mobile children in the house, things will have to be really made sure to be picked up around here.

My aunt just came into town a few weeks ago and I definately went all out and scrubbed till I dropped. The one thing I did that I usually forget is that I wiped down the baseboards and trim asround the windows and doors in the bathroom. That is the one room that I tend to forget.
Otherwise I just went over everything I wanted her to see with a fine tooth comb and made sure it was totally spotless here. I didn't touch the den because it would have given me a heart attack to see how bad it really is in here and how much DH has stashed away.. LOL
My List!
Kitchen
Refrigerator. Throw, sort and clean all storage. Check expiration dates in your pantry and fridge.
I usually line the veges/fruit bins with Bounty paper towels.
Ammonia free products for granite and stainless steel appliances. Pledge for all my wood cabinets. Sweep the floor then... my absolutely favorite product is Tilex for the tiles. I usually just spray on any little stubborn stains on the ground (Mopping made easy). I usually mop over with another clean bucket of water.
(hint) * Big believer that (Prevention is better then cure) When I have dinner parties or have to cook with oil. I would line the stove with foil first.
Bathroom.
Always check expiration dates on medication and make up.
I spray the bathroom walls and floor, toilet tank, toilet bowl, cover and bathroom sink and counter top etc with the Tilex while I do all my other chores. I want to leave it there for about 30minutes. You can throw all the rugs, mats shower curtain in washing machine. however do not dry the shower curtain in the dryer.
Wipe out the sink.
Scrub and wipe down everything.
Shine your mirror with news paper. Nothing works like it.
Bedroom
De-clutter and put away all those *things that have accumulated over a period like misplaced slippers and magazines, jewelry and glass of water etc.
Wipe down all your Chest and drawers, night stands and bed frame.
Change sheets and all bedding.
Wipe all base boards, windows and window frames.
Vacuum
Living Room
De-clutter. I usually take Lysol and a rag. Spray 4inches off the cloth and wipe and rub briskly and lightly over the cushion covers, and pillows. Put it out side on some beach chairs for about 30minutes.
Pick up crumbs or dust between the couch with a handheld vaccum.
I mix so Ajax with water and use a cloth to wipe down anything that is not made of wood. e.g vase etc
pledge for all coffee tables, side tables etc
Dust off all blinds and clean all windows
Vacuum carpet.
*After each room is clean it doesn't hurt to plug in some air fresheners or light a few scented candles in each room.
