Employment Verification vs Personal Reference

This is a followup to my post on this board yesterday.  I contacted my supervisor at the jewelry store I worked at during Christmas 2009.  She informed me that the company doesn't provide personal references/recommendations only employment verification.  She gave me the phone # for the company I'm applying for to call. Unfortunately I don't know anyone else at the store for a reference.  So how should I describe this employment verification on the job application form or should I leave it off the form altogether?

Re: Employment Verification vs Personal Reference

  • I definitely wouldn't list her or anyone else at the company as a reference, then. If you're asked to list the company's phone number on the application, list the one she gave you. But definitely use someone who will talk about you specifically when listing references.
