Flashing lights to warn of a speed trap?
When I was growing up, on-coming drivers used to always flash their high beams real fast to warn of a cop waiting up ahead but I rarely see it anymore (though I do way more highway driving now than before). Do people still do this? Is it a regional thing? I'm guessing it's either illegal or at least frowned upon by local law enforcement but I can't say it didn't help me out a few times in my life.
Re: Flashing lights to warn of a speed trap?
Seems like I saw this a lot more growing up too, more than I do now. Although, I grew up in a rural area-maybe it is more common there?
I won't do anything to warn other drivers of speed traps. As I have gotten older I have gotten more irritated with people who speed, so if anything, I tend to think "I hope you get a ticket, you Fer" when I see people whizzing toward a speed trap.
I agree. I rarely see people doing this anymore. I do it occasionally, but I feel like younger people don't know what it means. I think it's a dying courtesy.
That being said, I do agree with mrs remy, in that I do get very annoyed with excessive speeders. I only warn people that are going a little above, like me, heh.
I still flash my lights from time to time but I am pretty sure that it's illegal. I don't see people flashing their lights though too often to warn me. I do more highway driving than I do neighborhood driving and in general, as I've gotten older, I have really slowed down (ie: driving the speed limit) when I go through neighborhoods/local roads. Plus there are a lot of red light/speed cameras in the areas I'm driving in so that's helped me obey the posted speeds.
I don't think people really do it anymore - I guess when people see flashing lights they think something is wrong or someone is being obnoxious or something or something.
ohh grammy carrie
I do warn people still if its a place people frequently speed safely, but the cops put a speed trap just to be a-holes.
people still do it from what i can tell.
i should have got a ticket from one the other day but they had too many people pulled over already and there was no room for me to go.
... every single day of forever.
This. And I go a step farther and sometimes flash my lights at people who are speeding on my road when there is NO speed trap in the hopes that they will slow the F down!
