Framing

I have a couple of prints that I would like to get framed.  I haven't gotten anything framed here in the DM area and though I would ask for some feeback.  Any thoughts are appreciated. TIA!

Re: Framing

  • deck the walls at merle hay mall does a great job, and their regular price seems to be cheaper than michael's (with coupon).  they include the brown wrapping on the back with hanging features.  i tell them up-front that i'm not looking at a really pricey frame -- just simple with one mat.  some prints i've purchased from All Posters at $20, so i don't go crazy-expensive with a frame.  the framer told me that if it's an original print/painting or signed by the artist, it's worth a nice frame -- ha!

if it's a standard size, you may want to look at michael's.  they have a large selection of frames and mats to mix 'n match :)

  • I've had a few things quoted for custom framing and as a result I ended up just buying nice frames at Michaels and doing it myself.  However, I've heard good things about Deck The Walls as well.

  • Did you see the Living Social Deal today?  $25 for $50 of custom framing at Dot's?  I totally forgot about this place - I know my mom has used them...but that was many years ago!

I always go to Hobby Lobby. I usually watch for a sale on open-back frames, buy a piece of glass with the 40% off coupon and then have them cut a mat to fit it. I have a couple of 11x14s matted into 16x20 frames and I paid less than $25 for each. I did have to assemble them myself, but they have a table and supplies right there, so it wasn't really a hassle at all. I tried Michaels and they wanted close to $100 to do just one, and that was during one of their 1/2 off framing sales.
