What is the best part time job?

I am looking for a great part time job that I will not only like but also make money. I am a Real Estate Agent so when I don't have anything going on I am looking for something else to do. I have heard of Selling Mary Kay, Avon, or Premier Jewelry, but is there anything else. Any ideas are appreciated.

Re: What is the best part time job?

  • I would imagine that if you could find a good job waitressing part time at at least a mid-priced restaurant that you'd make a decent amount of money for a side-job.
  • have a good salary

  • I wanted a part-time job last year and with my busy schedule picked up Mary Kay and it's really worked out for me. I love being able to work when I want, I get out of it what I put into it and have met some awesome people. It's nice not to have a crazy schedule anymore, and if I don't want to work on the weekend I just don't book things for the weekend.

If you want some no nonsense answers about how it works feel free to shoot me an e-mail danielle.duvall.mk at gmail

  • What is your experience in?  I used to waitress as a part-time job, but I think those days are over for me.  I was  too physically tired and it would kill my feet and back.  Depending on where you live and where you have experience, you can make $100-$150 per night in a less then 8 hr shift.  Bartending is even more  Some banquet jobs you are per diem, and you can say no when they call.

I have some friends who do retail october to jan for extra cash and discounts, but they had experience.

If you have other special skills, you could tutor, do an SAT class, teach ESL,nanny, or babysit.  I know some of my CPA friends do extra tax prep.  My other social work friends work shifts at a hospital.

With home and party sales, I didn't have much luck.  Most people I know didn't end up liking it, and found it was a lot more time and their own money than they thought. Maybe you will like it.  For a second job, I would rather have something I went to and left.

  • I follow the discounts!  When I bought my home, I worked as a receptionist at Ethan Allen and bought all my furnture with my discount.

When I wa overhaluing the landcape I worked part time in a garden center and bought everything.

I also had the benefit of everyone's expertise in what I bought.

  • I would do waitressing because you'll make more in tips than making minimum wage at a clothing store.

I've sold Avon and Beauticontrol. Avon was easy because you just hand out books and don't do parties, but you have to place an order every other week and always order the books so if your order isn't book you can lose money. BC was fun but after I did a few parties no one would book and I am not a pushy person. It was nice to get the discount for awhile.

  • I work PT in retail. I was able to set my own schedule and they were willing to pay me what  I had asked for. Do I always enjoy it? No. I am currently hoping to get another one, or s different one that will have a better skill set toward my current or future career.

Waitressing & bartending will leave you free to show houses during prime time -- weekend afternoons.
  • I used to work part-time at a hotel.  I worked at the front desk 2 overnights each week.  The hotel catered to business-travellers, so it was pretty boring the weekends when I worked, but I used to bring books, homework (was taking some classes part-time also), projects/crafts (embroidery, etc), or paperwork from my full-time job & was allowed to work on these other projects in the time when I was just waiting.  The best part was awesome hotel discounts (seriously, one trip we stayed in San Francisco for just $40/night)!

If home sales appeals to you (like Avon or MaryKay), I know someone who had good luck with a sex-toy home sales business--she would do stuff like do parties for bridal showers or bachelorette parties & sell stuff like fuzzy handcuffs & "learn how to do a striptease" DVDs.  LOL.  I guess she did really good business & says it was a lot of fun, since it's kind of more taboo merchandise, I guess people would get all silly & make margaritas & stuff & have a blast with the sales parties.
