Re: **Tara

  • I'm such an emotional mess when it comes to stopping.  I put the ticker there to get me psyched up to stop, but I'm not sure that is going to happen.  I want to so bad because he bites sometimes and my nipples are pretty sore.  I would also like to be able to go out and have a few drinks and not feel guilt or engorgaged by the end of the night.  Emotionally, I am such a disaster.  Everytime I think about quitting I start crying...like right now...

I have no reason other than personal/selfish reasons to stop and I know the LLL people will tell me to just continue.  I'm so lost at what to do.  I'm hoping and praying that Parker will decide in the next few months that he is done and make the decision easier for me.  I know alot of women beat themselves up because they stopped to early.

I don't know what to do.  What are your plans?

  • Butting in.... But I totally am with you being sad about it too.  I plan to continue for his whole first year and I too want to cry when I think of stopping.  We went through this thing 2 weeks ago where he wanted to NOTHING to do with nursing and I was a complete wreck over it.  Then I realized that he wasn't upset over it, so why should I be?  He just wanted to be fed so we had to give him a bottle (which he takes all day anyway).  Luckily, he snapped out of it and things are back to normal now.

I say go as long as you feel comfortable, but don't beat yourself up over when you stop.  My opinion is that as long as they get breastmilk for the whole 1st year, then your boobs have done their job.  Of course, I still have some time before stopping, so it's easy to say that now.  I will say thought that I am SO sick of pumping.

And don't feel bad about going out and having drinks!  I don't drink often anymore, but if I have a few glasses of wine and as longs as I don't feel affected by it I will still pump or nurse.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only who has these feelings.  Thanks Lynette.

  • RE: biting. My pedi said that boys are easier to train not to bite. He said to flick them on the nose-not to hurt them but to startle them and then they "get it" that biting won't be tolerated. You might have to do it a few times.

HOWEVER, KR doesn't have teeth yet, and I'm not quite sure if I'll want to try this method when the time comes. My pedi hasn't steered me wrong with advice yet so we'll see.

  • Sorry I totally posted and ran. Then I had this all typed out last night and the internet went out and didn't come back til tonight.

I am going to wean Eli at 2 (unless he chooses to stop before then). I would go even longer but I want to start ttc when he is 2 and don't know how my body will be.

There are many days when I want to quit but when I really think about it I don't want to stop anytime soon. Eli is a HUGE biter and his 8 teeth have left lasting battle wounds on me. I actually have scars from his top teeth. I couldn't stop though because he would be so lost. He doesn't take a bottle, barely eats solids, and only takes water out of a cup.

And we have tried EVERYTHING to stop the biting and nothing works. He only bites me but its not even just the boobs. he has broke skin on my thigh and arms before too. he bites my legs when he is excited or mad or frustrated. and bites my arms when he wants boob food and isn't getting it fast enough (ex. When I am working to get my shirt up and bra undone) yes he is VERY impatient little fella.
