Need everyones advise!

I have been at my current job for 3 years, which at times I love, but then some times I hate.  It is a family owned company, so there is about 10 full time staff and 20 part time production staff members.  I am part of the sales/marketing team and really don't have anywhere else to move up within the company.  I have been wanting to manage the other 2 people that are in the sales/marketing for the last year, but my boss doesn't want to move me to that position.  He says it will be about another year before us 3 and him will get an assistant.  I recently got a job offer working for a larger company of about 30-40 people.  There is room for growth, but I don't believe it would happen until about a year into my position.  It is a little step back in responsibilities and about $2000 less in salary, but I will be saving about $1000 in gas because of the shorter commute.

Do I stay with my current job that I LIKE, not love, but love the people and am comfortable, but no real room for growth; or do I take a small step back to work with a larger company and can grow my skills?

 Thoughts?  Thanks!

Re: Need everyones advise!

  • I think you have worked there long enough to realize if it is something you want to do longterm. I would take the other job. Even though you like the job, I wouldn't want to be in a position where I could never move up or get raises. And the money doesn't seem that big of a difference, esp if you are saving on gas.

I love the company I work for but hate my position. I'm gonna wait until at least my 1 year to see if I get a raise or if anything internal opens up, otherwise I'll start job hunting again. I can't really move up in my position.

  • I'd take the new job.  I've never been happy working for companies where there's no room to grow.
