Vent and a fun question

DH hates his job. He got promoted again, but now does the work of 2 people between 2 separate branches. He's getting bogged down by his boss saying "I'll totally help you!" and then he'll come back to deals on his desk (after working at the other branch) because his boss and the other loan officer "Didn't feel like the loan was worth their time"

He's complained to the President and other higher ups numerous times because he's losing deals going back and forth.  He keeps being told to "keep his head down and plow through it" insinuating that DH will soon be taking over both branches (he's been told this for the last 2 years).

Anyway, I'm sick of hearing DH complain about it. He has a lot of opportunities elsewhere that he refuses to look into because of lame excuses (such as, the house and moving costs-yes legit concerns, but usually companies will pay for him to move)

So here's the question, if you could move anywhere-where would you move and why.

Personally, I'm picking Austin, TX. So I've been looking for job opportunities there. But if anybody else knows of great places to live put them up there!

    OMFG! Yes! :)

It's nice to dream and say that I want to move here or there but in all actuality I don't ever see myself leaving.  I'm too much of a stubborn Texan to just leave my roots.

  • Laura,

Where do you live in Austin? What are the shady parts I should probably stay away from? :)

  • P.S. Austin is an AMAZING city and I would hope everyone could just visit it at least once.

  • Hawaii or Florida. I want warm weather and clear water on the beach. I want zero snow and minimal rain. Oh to dream :)

    Laura,

I live about 15 miles east of the city.  In a town called Manor.  With a LONG a for all you northeners! Stick out tongue Anyway, you could pretty much live in the surrounding area without actually living IN Austin and get away with it.  DH's parents moved here from California and only spent a little over 100K on their 4 bd room 2 1/2 bath brand new house.  Had they moved to Austin, it wouldn't have been that cheap.  Anything in the surrounding areas of Pflugerville, Round Rock, Leander, Manor, Buda, Kyle, Georgetown even-I think you would be okay.  All roads literally lead to Austin.  If you want to live in Austin I would stay away from the East side (E Riverside, E Stassney etc.) Also, some parts of Rundberg, Rutland, Lamar, Burnet Rd---They are the more low low low income areas, drug dealer places.  Although, downtown East Austin isn't that bad considering they are trying to convert all the old houses to Condo's.  If you have any other questions feel free to hit me up. Big Smile

  • That sucks about DH's job. I would definitely be looking into other opportunities too.

As far as moving somewhere else, we are very happy with Atlanta. We went through hell to get here and for good reason. It's a great area with some great school systems and communities. We've also got tons of entertainment stuff being in such a large city including opera, ballet, symphony, professional sports teams, an internationally acclaimed Shakespearean acting group/mini Globe theatre. I could go on and on. The weather is great and we aren't too far from the beach.

I don't think Steve and I will ever move.

  • I don't know if we could ever really move either - 90% of our family all live in Northern NJ. It'd be too weird to ditch them all.

We did semi-seriously consider Hawaii, though, before we bought the house. We had contacted a realtor on Maui and M applied for a few jobs. It would just have been for a few years, though, because we want to be around family when we have kids.

  • Laura, the house prices in May-nor kill me. I could be living in a freaking palace for what we paid.
  • yes my friend, you are correct!

  • We never get to pick where we live, thank you Navy, but if I could, I guess I'd say Vermont. We want to be close to family, something we haven't been able to do for the last 9 years, and we'd really like ours kids to be close to grandparents and cousins and all. DH misses Vermont and his family like crazy, and has since the day he left for flight school all those years ago, and I'd like to be in one place and have friends again. I miss my home and my family in south Florida, but I would never live there again, it's way too expensive and overcrowded, property values have fallen so bad, and crime is off the charts.

  • Krissy's house. With her parents. Or Maria's parents. Town doesn't matter.

  • I don't know that we would ever make a big move, since both of our families are here. Also, as much as I'd like to say I want to live somewhere warm, I don't like intense heat, and I actually think I would miss the winters. So, we'll probably stay in NY or the surrounding areas (I would love to live in New England again, at some point). However, I wanted to throw in another plug for Austin. I traveled there for work in 2007, and ended up "living" there for about 7 weeks total, and I absolutely loved it! DH and I actually considered moving there after I came back, but in the end we couldn't leave our families.

  • I'd stay in NC. I live in central NC, and I love it. I'm 3.5 hours from the beach and 2 from the mountains. My city is nice, kinda old, but nice, nonetheless. If I had to pick a different city, it would be Wilmington or Concord (outside of Charlotte).
