I am currently 27 weeks along, and the closer I get to my due date, the more I'm second-guessing my decision to have my OB deliver our little one. I'm hoping for a med-free birth, and I'm concerned that with an OB, I'm going to be up against a lot of resistance from her and the nurses. When I brought up my preference of a med-free birth to my OB at the beginning of my pregnancy she seemed open to it, but I'm becoming less and less convinced after hearing stories from friends who delivered with other doctors from the same practice.
I recently found out that the Toledo Hospital has Certified Nurse Midwives and I'm considering looking into switching. Has anyone had experience with them? Or, has anyone had a med-free birth at Toledo? If so, what was your experience?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Anyone Deliver at Toledo Hospital with a Midwife?
I do not have kids but my mom worked in L&D at TTH forever. (She's an NP now, but I'll ask her for you tonight).
I'm pretty sure that if you want to be med free no one is gonna give you anything unless medically necessary (ie an emergency).
I would suggest making sure your doctor again knows your wishes and inform the nursing staff when you get there.
This!
My dad said that if you're looking for a midwife that Joe is amazing. He said that he's the best midwife and has tons of knowledge and that if I was to use a midwife he would make sure that Joe had me. My dad also said that all the midwives were very good. I want to say that Tracy was another name he mentioned.
(my dad works currently in L&D, in the NICU and saves little baby lives every day..hehe)
I also asked about the meds stuff and my hubby (who is an RN at TTH chimed in) If there is no Rx for meds the nurse can not give you any. A nurse isn't gonna make more work for themselves and give you meds unneccessarily.
HTH and good luck!
