To appease Ms. Tigers... ;)

Were you allowed to use/hold/play with sparklers when you were younger?

We were not.  My mom didn't let us, and told us horrible stories enough that I cringe when Jim brings them out on the 4th for the kids to see.

  • Nope.  But my parents were paranoid of everything.  We got them out last year with Ben already.  As long as we are right there I'm ok with sparklers.  But never ever bottle rockets.  I've seen awful burns/wounds from them!

  • We did.  It was fun.

  • You betcha.  Amazingly I still have all my fingers.
  • Yes. We also fire a cannon at the lake. So, take that for what you will.
  • Oh yeah, we always had sparklers.  I bought some for Hudson this year.  I'd like to hear some of these horrible stories.

  • Mostly they involve burnt eyeballs and fingers.  Of little people with parents who weren't paying attention.  You want my mom's phone number?  I think she relishes in telling gorey tales. ;)

Also, y'all are not meeting Tigers' request.  One question an hour from each of you.  Get to work!

  • We had sparklers, poppers, and snakes. I HATE HATE HATE sparklers. I used to hate holding them and feeling the little stings on my hands. I never saw a point of them. i never said anything about it, I would just do my few for the year and call it good.  I was never afraid of them, I just thought they were more annoying than anything. (gosh I sound like a grump)

Putting them in the water and hearing the sizzle was the best part.

We will get poppers for the girls this year.

  • We were.  But I don't remember having them when we were young.  I only remember having them once we were 8ish and older.

The point is that you can right your name in the air with fire!!  Big Smile

Yep, we played with sparklers.  It was fun.

  • Nope. I never even held one 'til I was probably 16, at a friend's July 4th celebration, and felt "bad" doing that.

I didn't realize it was per person!  I'll have to start using my brain...

  • Absolutely NOT!  My dad DID NOT approve of those whatsoever.  And now, if I let my kids play with them when he is around, I have to feel the intense disapproval  from him sitting with his armed crossed and watching...
  • Yes. And not those mamby-pamby long-handled papery ones, either. Just the short wires with shooting sparks for us.
