  • Awesome, thanks for sharing! Now that I have a tripod I was considering taking it for our camping trip...not sure where we're watching fireworks but I'd love to try to get some shots!

  • Ooooh, great post!  Does she by any chance have a similar post on shooting lightening?  I tried to do it the other day and it was a giant fail.  It was hard b/c you don't know when the lightening is going to strike, so using a slow shutter speed was tough.

Hmm good question, I don't know that I've seen her write any in regards to lightning, but I have this post bookmarked and it's full of useful information!

ETA: I should add that you can modify the info in this article for DSLRs: remote release vs cable, ISO vs film speed Smile

Oh, great link.  Thanks!  I think a tri-pod will be my next equipment purchase for sure.

Of course!  Yeah a tripod is essential for long exposures and quite helpful for low light situations!  Just make sure you invest in one that can support the weight of your camera.  It's often recommended that a tripod is one piece of equipment that you don't cheap out on because you are trusting it to support your equipment and to not tip over :)

Manfrotto (Bogen) is a good brand, it's pricey but worth it!

I have a Manfrotto with a ball and socket head: great for adjusting composition and the quick release system is flawless!
