Ew Ew Ew

I just got back from a quick two night business trip to Rome. It was for meetings and they put us all up at the same hotel. The first night, I woke up in the middle of the night and noticed a couple smallish bugs on the wall by the bed. I was half asleep so didn't fully process what I saw. When I woke up there was a bug on the pillow and several on the wall. The hotel moved me to a different room for the second night.

I had my suspicions but based on what they looked like and the number of bites on my arms... it was most definitely bedbugs!!! And it would have to be a really bad infestation of them for me to be able to see them in the daylight so they'd obviously been in that room for a while. Yuck...

When I got home, I refused to bring my luggage into our apartment so I unpacked all of my stuff into garbage bags in the hallway and threw the suitcase away. My clothes are doing a dryer cycle (the heat kills any eggs), and the rest of the stuff I had with me is in sealed plastic bags until I figure out what to do with it. FML!!!

Re: Ew Ew Ew

  • That is seriously my worst fear.  If you bag up ALL your stuff for 30 days, it will suffocate them..then wash anything you have.  YUCK!
  • I'm SO sorry that sounds horrible!!
  • Ew is right!  Geez!  Good thinking quarantining everything, I really hope you got rid of all of them!

  • Double yuck!! That is one of my fears too!!! I'm looking at hotels for our GTG, and one of the ones that I really wanted to book had a lot of folks on TA comment that they experienced bb's there. I know in large hotels sometimes it happens, and it was a little while back, but just reading about it made me scratch them off my list...ew, indeed!

ps - sorry you got bit :-(

  • Ew!!  Ick! My skin is crawling just thinking about it!  Hopefully the dryer kills everything/anything that you may have brought back.

  • Oh gross! At least you had the presence of mind to unpack in the garage and try to decontaminate.

  • Yikes!! That is everyone's worst nightmare these days. Good idea to wash and dry your stuff, the heat should do the trick. I hope they are gone and don't visit you anymore!

  • Holy hell!  That's nasty, I'm sorry you had to go thru that.  Italy is on my bucket list since my grandparents came from there.  Do you remember the name of the hotel?  Just so I know not to stay there whenever my sister and I make it (Mike refuses to go).

I'm not sure how to treat the problem with your belongings - maybe check www.eHow.com?  I use that for everything.  They should be able to tell you waht to do.  Good luck!!

  • EEwww, totally icky!  I hope that your decontamination efforts work!
  • That is for sure one of my WORST nightmares.  They are SO hard to get rid of.  I hope that your quick thinking and quarantine efforts do the trick.  That stinks!  You couldn't have brought back some pasta or wine or something from Rome instead??  haha

Good luck in the "Battle of the Bed Bugs" !!!!

  • Okay, at first I was hating you for your "quick trip to Rome" - ugh, a girl can dream...but then I read the rest and felt SO bad for you! I haven't stopped itching for 5 minutes!!!
