Harmony...Re: MRI results

Well, it isn't bowel. The nurse called and said that my doctor wants to meet with me and talk to the radiologist about the results. The report just says "fluid filled structure"...WTF?!?! Of course my doctor is not in town so the other RE in the office said we didn't have to wait to try until we find out what it is....so that's good. I have an appt on the 20th.

Another thing is that I might be close to having diabetes. They are calling in Metformin for me to start. My level was high normal and my blood glucose is always normal, so who knows. He is the expert...not me.

  • Wait, don't they use Metformin for pcos? I don't have that and I think it's just for my high HgA1C level. I have heard a side effect is diarrhea. Anyone else have to take this and want to tell me anything else?

I have heard of it being used to treat people with border-line diabetes before.  I haven't taken it, but I seem to remember others talking about it & saying it made them have diarrhea if they didn't eat stick to a South Beach kind of diet.  Do you want to lose weight?  Possibly pooping my pants would be motivation for me to stick to a diet.  Maybe that's your silver lining?

    My thoughts exactly.

  • I take Metformin. If I eat a big greasy meal or all carbs for a day, yes I have stomach issues. But it's not surprise you pooped yourself! like Alli it's more like, stay near a bathroom for a bit. It's totally controlable as long as you don't eat mcdonald's twice a day (or the supersize extra value meal once a day). I do take it for PCOS but it is orginally for diabetes or borderline diabetes. pcos can also be present without showing the mutliple cycts yet, it may just be heading that way and they want to head it off. you know you can email me if you need any more details!

I believe metformin is technically a diabetes drug, I think the use of it for PCOS is an off-label use.  My mom is on it for diabetes and I know a lot of people who took it while TTC.  The only thing I know about it in terms of side effects is that it's supposed to help you lose weight.

Good luck and hugs.  I hope you get answers and happy news very soon.

My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling. image Hipster dog is not impressed.

It is - and my dad and I were taking it at the same time, for very different reasons Smile

  • Yep. It is a diabetes drug. I take 2 pills a day and have no diarrhea problems. BUT when I tried to take 3 pils, I had stomach issues. It is SUPPOSED to help you lose weight but like anything else, you still out-eat that side effect.
  • I hope you get some answers soon.

Like AP said, the stomach issues are worse when there is heavy carbs involved.
