Breastfeeding & (Potential) New Job
When we moved down here, I took the only job that would consider an 8-month pregnant woman. It is just part-time so while I've been on maternity leave, I've been seeking out a full-time position. I have an interview tomorrow morning!
I want to be able to pump at work. Would you mention that during the interview or once the offer has been given? I'm assuming that I should wait until the offer has been given, yes?
What does the law provide for moms who breastfeed? I had it bookmarked, but can't seem to find it now. If I don't get this job, I'll still need to know for the part-time job I currently have.
If I have to, I won't pump at work, but I'd rather not have to chose that option.

There is no reason for you to mention that at your interview. According to the law (see above) they must give you a reasonable accomodation to pump.

It seemed from Jennrs post that the Iowa Department of Human Rights was supporting the adoption of a propsed Act in that link. With language like "is advocating for" and "a law is necessary" it sounded like the Act had not yet been made a formal law.
Here are the two laws I could find in the Iowa code that relate to breastfeeding, I don't believe there is currently a formal Iowa or federal law on the books that specifically protects a woman's right to pump at work.
Iowa Code ? 135.30A (2002) provides that a woman may breastfeed the woman's own child in any public or private location where the mother and the child otherwise are authorized to be present, except the private home or residence of another if the mother's breastfeeding is likely to be viewed by and affront the owner or any occupant of the private home or residence. A mother may breastfeed her child under this section irrespective of whether the nipple of the mother's breast is uncovered during or incidental to the breastfeeding.
Iowa Code ? 607A.5 (1994) permits a mother who is breastfeeding and who is responsible for the daily care of the child and is not regularly employed to be excused from serving on a jury.
There's a federal law. You have to be provided a place to pump that isn't a bathroom, and is private.

Sorry about that! For some reason I thought that the legislature made that law. My bad. But, you are protected federally.
