I know someone just recently posted this, but I can't find the post. If someone could link it for me, that would be great. Otherwise, I'm looking for suggestions for a 5 day trip over Labor Day weekend. I think we'd prefer to fly - a short flight 1 to 2 hours. We'll have DD with us, and she'll be just over 1.
We love the beach, but I'm concerned about going south or to the Carribean becuse it's hurricane season. We're also going to NC this month.
We've done Charleston and Savannah, so we'd like to try something new.
I was thinking about going North - maybe Boston and Cape Cod, but don't know much about Cape Cod. I also don't think it's that walkable, and I'd like some place where we can walk to at least some shops/restaurants.
Any suggestions welcome!
Re: (please forgive me) - Long weekend trips in September
Depending on where you are in Cape Cod, it can definitely be walkable. H's mom has a summer house there, and from her house we can walk to the beach and to some shops and restaurants. Of course we don't have kids, and our definition of walkable is likely different than others, since we are big walkers.
The Mid-Cape area can be less expensive than other areas and is very family friendly. I'd consider both Harwich Port and Dennis Port to be pretty walkable.
ETA: Bonatt's in Harwich Port is one of our favorite places to get breakfast on the Cape. They make this incredible pastry called a Meltaway, and every table gets one free. I'm going into mental munchie land just thinking about it.
i'd also suggest RI - in providence there is roger williams park zoo and a children's museum. newport has beaches, mansions to tour, cliff walk, and plenty of shops and restaurants. you could also do a harbor cruise or train ride. i like easton beach in newport. the only downside of newport is that if you stay near the beach, you aren't near the shops/restaurants but it is literally less than ten minutes to drive to on or the other.
ditto cep on the port towns
