This is something I'm really struggling with. This is essentially our 4th weekend in a row of celebrating at the house (M's birthday, the housewarming, my birthday, the 4th) and we're sort of drowning in unhealthy leftovers.
I threw out two trays of brownies this week and felt super guilty about it. We've got about 5 lbs of potato salad and a million hot dogs I can't bring myself to throw out... it just seems so wasteful. I called around to a few nonprofits and none of them are interested in taking the stuff because the packages are already open.
So, I'm eating the crap food because I'm feeling guilty about the starving children in Africa.
Does anyone else feel the same guilt? What do you do with party leftovers?
Re: s/o HHC - Holiday Leftovers
Sorry, I missed this part in my earlier response. I do feel guilty throwing away food. I usually try to send some home with our guests. After that, DH and I eat whatever we can (and/or send some over to my parents' house), but at some point when we can't stomach eating the same thing anymore, or we can't eat it fast enough to keep it from going bad, we have to throw it out.
Yeah, the potato salad is getting re-served this weekend. M doesn't eat it... I don't really want to eat that much myself!
And we did freeze the leftovers hot dogs/burgers/buns... it's probably enough to sustain us for a year, lol.

I used to feel guilt over stuff like that, but sometimes you just have to accept that you made too much. Starving children across the world will not be helped one bit by you eating more than you should just to use it up.
The suggestions from everyone about trying to use it at a different party or taking it to work sound good. Maybe bring some this week as lunches. If you can't use it all just make a mental note to make less the next time.

I feel guilt throwing food out too. It's so irrational, but I still do.
When I have too many desserts or too much of a big dish (pasta salad, potato salad, lasgna) I drop it off in the kitchen at David's work, no comment, no note. It disappears and the next time David goes to work I have pretty clean dishes sitting in his locker to bring home to me. Those men adore me!
Don't know if you are close enough to your neighbors yet, but maybe ask around and see if anyone else is having BBQs this weekend and if they would want your dogs/buns?
I always feel incredibly guilty for throwing food away too.
The taking it to work suggestion is a good one. Other than that, I got nothin'
