So today was the first day of their shinny new convertible car seats. My mom is taking them for the day, so I loaded them up, swapped cars, kissed them good-bye, and drove off to work.
30 minutes later she sends me this:
My poor baby! We're driving 2+ hours tomorrow to IL's cabin, and I was planning to do it during their morning nap. They usually sleep like chaps in their infant seats, but I can't let him sleep like that. He can't be comfortable.
Did we install it wrong? Not reclined enough? Is he just sleeping funny? Do your LOs sleep comfortably in their car seats or is this just how it works?
Robynn is coming to get the infant seat at 3, but I'm about .05 seconds from stuffing his chubbyass back in that little thing until he's every single millimeter of 30 inches. Help!
Re: First day of convertible car seats=FAIL. I don't think he's comfy. :o(
E does this in one seat that we have, even now at the age of 3. I just give her a blanket, and we ball it up to help prop her head back up. I think it's a pretty common thing. If you the little leveler thing is right on the edge of the carseat, there's not much more you can do. It looks uncomfortable, but it doesn't seem to bother them!
ETA: She does this in the Eddie Bauer, I thought there was something wrong with the seat, but it's just the way it is. Her Britax reclines more, and has the option to recline even more, so she seems more comfy in it.
Some seats recline more than others. And the seats of some vehicles are more slanted. I had originally purchased a different seat for AJ, but when I installed it in our car I realized that it was practically upright and after one ride in it, we knew it wasn't going to work.
If you have time to go to BRU, they have a bench seat you can try different carseats on. That would give you a better idea of how reclined each seat is.
BRU also sells these foam carseat adjusters that go under the front of the seat to tip them back more. I tried one with the seat that wasn't reclined enough for AJ, but I didn't feel like we got a secure enough fit with that. They might be worth a shot, though, if you otherwise like the carseats you got (or got a killer deal on them. Because those things aren't cheap and I can't imagine having to buy TWO at once!)
Owen does that in his seat.
When and if you are ready to get rid of the other seat, let me know and I will come get it!
Ellie has always done this in her seats (except for infant seat) no matter what. We can push her head back and try to rest it on the side but she just flops it forward again.
Riley has a MyRide65 and has never done it. He just relaxes his head to the side and passes out.
The beginning:
The end:
(Although now there's the seperation anxiety of one screaming their face off while I go get the other from the car, but I'm sure we'll all make it work eventually...)
Ditto this. The older girls did this. Mara doesn't in her MyRide65, her head goes against the side (still RF) and rests there.
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
It should recline way more than that. It looks like a Britax seat, did you tether it?
This is DD in her seat at 7 months:
If you have the MyRide make sure the "feet" are snapped in underneath the seat. They come out for FF.

I actually refer to S's reclining RF carseat as his barcalounger. He loves it and sleeps great in it. I remember the first time we put him in it, he was so excited - like "thanks Mom, this is freakin great, I have all this room and I can see out the window".
Definitely try reclining it more. But I agree with K - he wouldn't fall asleep if he was totally uncomfortable. My kiddo falls asleep in weird positions in his bed all the time.
PS - love the then & now pics!!
