So. I kicked it into full gear to get my *** under control AND - now I have an organized closet, an organizes LINEN closet, I condensed our CDs to free up one of the bookshelves in the living room...which I then moved to Baz's room and it houses all of his stuffed animals so that the ones in the play area can have all of his stuff and my office can go back to being my office.
This weekend I'm continuing the madness with a crazy deep clean and I'm building a "home management" folder - I picked up an expanding folder at Target today and am going from there. I'll blog about it when it's all finished. Because I'm nerdy like that.
I blogged my closet, but I don't have "before" pictures of the rest of the place, so we'll see how the "After" turns out in blogland.
Also - after all this craziness I'm going to do a video tour of my house...to send to the insurance company. That way they know I'm not lying when I say we own some of the things we own and I don't forget things. I hear a story about doing this on NPR a few years ago and the reporter was talking to the insurance agent as they're walking up the walk to her house and she's all "yeah, so in the living room there's a couch and a couple of chairs and a coffee table and a tv and a grandfather clock and some books and pictures and our dvd player and our stereo system...blah blah blah..." And then they open the door and the insurance adjuster is all "forget something" and the reporter was all "no..." and the insurance adjuster said "so that's not a baby grand I see sitting right there?" And the reporter was all "OOPS! I do have a baby grand!"
So. Doing that.
And then next weekend we're going hiking/climbing at Castle Rock (open invite) on saturday because we need to Get Out More.
How are you guys doing?
Re: In keeping with the "life I want to live" spirit - update us!
I work in insurance so excellent work, but I also know if you sent me a video for your file I wouldn't be able to open it. So, that said-You might want to keep the video yourself in a fireproof safe and just send them still photos.
they said a dvd would work and be filed with my stuff. and yes - one for the fire safe for sure.
I have finally moved past all of the crap and sadness and feelings of failure that I've been mired in and I feel like I can go back to living the life I was before. The life where I tried new things and the life I love to live. I feel so light and free right now and ready to jump back in to my life.
So, we finished painting and decorating the bathroom and are almost finished with our cabinet painting extravaganza. We'll hang the last two doors this weekend and paint the last coat on the hutch for the kitchen. Then our kitchen reno is officially done until the fall flooring project!
We've hung some travel memontos that were waiting for the perfect space. The house really feels like ours now!
I've successfully grown herbs and have been obsessed with watching the birds on our new feeders. I'm reading The Butcher and the Vegetarian and love it. I feel like I could have written it myself.
I am loving my yoga classes again and can't wait to hang out with my hubs this weekend.
For me lately, the life I want to live is the one I used to have and couldn't seem to get back to. In the last two weeks, I've rediscovered the joy in my simple things, reading, yoga, good friends and cooking.
I realized the only thing with my health issues I can control is my attitude, so I'm back to being positive-My doctor is super impressed with my results on my meds so far, and said TTC may not be off as long as originally thought.
I applied for a new position with my company and got it...I start as soon as I'm back from vacation. I'm ready for something new.
I got approval to go back to working out, and will be (when I get back from vacation of course) I'm ready to feel good about working out again like I was just a few short weeks ago...Plus I think I'm going to sign up for a triathalon.
Andrea and Tory, I'm so happy for you both. You both have been through much recently and it's good to see you surfacing again.
A, your kitchen project is an accomplishment! More pics, please. And you'll have to look up our posts from The Butcher and the Vegetarian and add your own thoughts. I keep thinking about that book! I really enjoyed it.
T, congrats on the new position. And yea on your attitude. I admire that about you.
I finally painted my dressing room and it's actually gray this time, instead of purple! This weekend I'll clean up, unpack it and arrange furniture.
We've had a few people over to the house finally. My friends finally told us they didn't care if we didn't have couch, so I've hosted two dinners now on our patio (because we still don't have a dining room table, but we do have a couch now).
I feel that I am doing AWESOME!
I am really able to do a lot now that we have the baby swing, though I do feel incredibly guilty that I am not savoring this time by holding her as she sleeps. Not that I can assume that is good going forward, and being committed to things like cloth diapers means that I have to be able to do laundry.
So far, I have thoroughly purged most of our kitchen (I still need to do the spice cabinet and possibly rethink the pantry organization). I got rid of so many kitchy things we had hanging out there, including cleaning off our window cells which had become extra storage space. The entry closet, regardless of its state of being totally f'd up, is totally organized--mostly baby feeding supplies (bottles, pump equipment, and bowls and silverware). The rest of the main floor is clean and organized and rid mostly of what I am willing to get rid of right now. Actually, it is pretty bare. I am pretty happy!
My laundry room is 70% organized, including making the closet Cedra's closet. The au pair's room is 80% empty. It is proving to be slightly harder to empty just because I am running out of room for things I am obligated to keep... files, paperwork. My bedroom is about 60% (and that may be generous). The loft is about 50%. I haven't decided what I am working on next, but I do want to know that I want to repaint the downstairs bathroom and redo some of the fixtures, but not a high priority yet (as I want to take out an exterior wall and make it straight, right now it angles around a dead redwood tree.
On a happy note, I am still getting out of the house every day, I am back in my prepregnancy jeans, and I love my little girl to pieces. I have decided I also want to start writing at least 2 cards a day and deplete some of my papyrus store from my office, especially since I don't have an office anymore.
I think that's all. But pinterest is giving me plenty more ideas to play around with :-)
Not sure if this idea applies to this paperwork you are talking about, but do you guys have a scanner? We scan any paperwork we want to keep (that wouldn't have to be an original) and then shred it. Otherwise, we'd have way too many papers!
We've been making progress on finishing projects in our house. I made a spreadsheet of all the projects I wanted us to complete this summer and scheduled our weekends to work on them, because I want to make sure they get done! Right now we're finishing indoor house projects. My husband built and built-in bookshelf next to our fireplace. It looks so good and I'm so happy I came up with the idea!
We just need to prime and paint it. I've been working on finishing painting our office. I also decided that when we moved everything back in we're going to get rid of a lot of things. I realized when we moved everything out there was a lot of extra stuff that we don't need.
This is a great thread Emmie! It's so positive and inspiring to read how everyone is making progress in their lives.
the scanner is a GREAT idea! I'm going to apply it where I can. Thanks! (Roni - I'm willing to share my scanner if it will help you!)
And I LOVE this thread. It's full of happy. And it's keeping me inspired.
And now, I'm off to buy oven cleaner because I'm one of those people who doesn't clean their oven and MAN can you tell. yikes.
Wow, this is very inspiring thread! I am really happy for all of you.
We steam cleaned our carpet in our den/playroom/Elena's dining room, lol. It was gross and now it's gorgeous.
I am having some friends over on Monday which I love to do and have not been doing nearly enough! So that motivates me to clean and organize a bit (although i know they don't care).
We have both been working out more and encouraging each other to work out more.
I spoke to DH about how I don't like how much meat has crept into our diet, chicken, beef etc, and he cut way back, we are eating a lot more tofu and beans (we always ate tons of veggies so it's more about the protein component).
I have a couple of things planned that are just me and DH or even just me which even though I miss my daughter and think about her tons when I am away, I find those times very rejuvenating. I don't want to be doing it all the time, but some me or me/DH times are essential. We have been lax about making time for ourselves.
Of course that counts! We were living out of boxes and on take-out for weeks after we moved! You'll have so much fun painting and making it your own.
I love having friends over. Lots of lazy dinner parties filled up our Dallas life and I keep wanting to get back to that spot again. Good for you for getting there!
And YAY for clean carpets. It's like Clean Sheet Day - the world just feels better :-)
It does count!
let me know if you need anything :-)
E- Thanks so much.
Z- 75% unpacked in one week is awesome!
I did nothing but have massive amounts of fun this past week. It should have been illegal. Some of it probably was. The only progress I made was in NOT bringing my camera anywhere so I wouldn't have more photos burying me.
And I'm a-ok with that!
SO proud of everyone for all they've accomplished! Way to go!
Women don't want to hear what men think,
women want to hear what they think, in a deeper voice
Having massive amounts of fun is a huge accomplishment!
