Interesting zoning issue

DH wants to build a 12'x20' shed in our backyard to replace the small crappy one that came with the house.  I have no issue with this and we really need a new and bigger shed.  He filled out the build permit paperwork with the town to get it approved.  I guess he is down at town hall now trying to get it approved and found out that our whole neighborhood is on wetlands and should never have been built (it was built in 1975).  So now I have no idea how he is going to go about getting a permit to build the shed that will replace an existing structure.

Just thought it was interesting that our whole neighborhood built on wetlands and no-one has said anything till now.

Re: Interesting zoning issue

  • That is interesting. I figured you would have found that out when buying the house.

  • You would've thought.  Glad we found out now with a shed and not after buying an inground pool or something much bigger and more expensive.

  • Oh wow that is interesting. I guess if you haven't had any issues so far it's not too big of a deal. So I take it no basements in your neck of the woods then?
  • Everyone here has basements.  I don't think I've ever been in a house without one.

So far we've no issues with water in the basement and there is no history of any in the basement in the 35 year history of our house or our neighbors' houses.

  • That is crazy and I can't believe it didn't come up when you bought the house.  Weird!
