Refurbished.. yay or nay?

I am generally a big fan of refurbished items are they are garanteed to work when you get them since they are individually tested.

However.. I am in the process of upgrading my Iphone. I can get the refurbished one for $99 vs the new one for $199.

I am torn on this one since I use my phone like crazy, mainly for internet and texting. All other items I have bough refurbished aren't used quite as much

What are your thoughts?

Re: Refurbished.. yay or nay?

  • I would be hesitant to buy a refurbished phone.  However, I know most Apple products when you buy them refurbished (iPods, etc.) have brand new batteries and brand new outer casings.  If this was the case for the iPhone as well, you could give it a shot.  I would definitely find out what the warranty on the refurbished phone would be.

    Refurbished Phones and Devices
Refurbished phones are previously owned devices that have been unused or lightly used and returned during the 30-day trial period. Each refurbished phone is independently quality tested and loaded with the latest software to meet current factory standards. Some refurbished iPhone 3G devices will have minor scratches.

Refurbished iPhone devices carry a limited warranty based on the original purchase date of the iPhone. The remaining coverage will be at least 90 days and will vary by device. If you purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone, your coverage duration will also be tied to the original purchase date of the iPhone and will vary by device. For specific coverage details, please enter your iPhone serial number at apple.com/support/oss

  • My iPhone (the original version) is a refurbished one. The one I originally bought freaked out, and when I took it in, they replaced it with a refurbished one. I was kinda annoyed, but 3-4 years later, it's still going strong :)

  • Just as I decided to go for it they sold out. Dang it.
