brazilian wax tomorrow!

so my DH has been gone 3 weeks and is coming home on Monday... I want something to surprise him so my friends convinced me to get a Brazilian wax! I'm a little nervous. Any tips for those who have done it? Getting ridiculously drunk before? finding some Xanax somewhere? :)

Re: brazilian wax tomorrow!

  • Definitely take some Advil before hand, that will help.  If you're really afraid of the pain, you could find out if your salon has any sort of numbing gel - the place I go to does, you apply 15-30 minutes before hand and it does help take some of the sting out of it.

  • Ok...first off, it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.  I won't lie to you...it hurts like hell, but it I don't think that it hurts more than getting my lip or legs waxed.  Here are the tricks I've learned from waxing and laser (don't do laser down south...I lasted one session).  Take advil a couple of hours before you go in order to reduce inflammation.  I tried the Xanax route, but it's no more effective than drinking a couple glasses of wine (which I was told to do before getting laser treatment done).  In waxing, I've found that if you take Advil, then also use Bikini Zone or Neosporin...the one with the pain reliever in it as well, it's helpful.  The Neosporin needs to be the cream so that it can rub in completely, not the ointment.  The Bikini Zone just seems to keep things from feeling as irritated.  I know a friend that uses Solarcane (I'm not sure how it's spelled)  on the area being waxed because it has lidocaine in it.  Regardless...you'll be fine.  It's well worth it to not have to shave for a good bit after the waxing!  Have fun!!

  • for next time- take 2 advils an hour before

    no caffeine the day of

avoid doing it the week before your period, the skin is more sensitive.

    :)

  • I will admit my ingornance and am totally clueless, so I will ask - what is a Brazilian Wax?

It's waxing ALL the hair off from your navel to your crack and everything in between!

I am actually an esthetician and drinking alcohol makes it WORSE! Alcohol dilates the capillaries in the skin cause it to be more painful and you could possibly bruise and lift the skin. So no drinking!

Taking advil an hour before is good. Schedule it to be done right after your period when your threshold to pain is a lot stronger. Find someone with lots of experience or that specializes in brazilians and that uses hard wax will make it way less painful!

I know many people think the longer the better with hair growth before hand. But really the longer the hair is the more it will hurt. So 10-14 days of growth after shaving is perfect. Or 1/4 of an inch!

And numbing creams don't work! It's a placebo! You might as well put toothpaste on your crotch for the same "tingle" effect. Ha ha

And RELAX. The more you hype it up the worse it will be!

Then is there something I can do/ask for just for the inner thighs and around my anus?

  • well your thighs would be a bikini wax I think. And for the other part, I think you would have to talk to the salon about that.

I didn't drink any alcohol! After reading the PP, I'm glad I didn't! My husband came home last night after being gone and he was totally surprised. The look on his face was priceless. Annnnnd he spent wayyyy more time down there on me! :) mmhmm!

  • The first one can be pretty interesting, and uncomfortable! But the more often you go, the less they hurt. It also depends on how coarse or fine your hair is.

  • I've never had a brazilian... so I want to know how (aside from the pain aspect) you get up the courage to have someone lookin and touching your lady parts besides your husband and your gyno?? lol I think I could probably handle the pain, but it's really hard for me to think I would have the guts to not be mortified!

  • I guess the key is just nothing thinking about what they are touching. At the salon I go to, the room is dim, with a light over the working area. Plus, she has blankets to put over your legs so you don't feel so spread eagle naked. And just like the gyno, she has seen it all, and she's a professional.
