What do you cook while waiting on homegoods?

I brought a skillet, large saucepan, and a cookie sheet with us in the car.  I also have some prep stuff like a knife and a cutting board, but not much else.  What kind of easy meals do you normally make while waiting for your stuff?  Our shipment isn't supposed to get here until at least July 15th.

I make stir fry, pasta, quesadillas, soups, and a lot of one dish meals usually involving pasta or rice.

Oooh, stir fry sounds really good right now.  Thanks for the ideas.  I'm trying to be good and meal plan.

  • Pastas and if you brought a baking dish you can bake a lot of meats in the oven. Two of my favorite chicken recipes just pop in the oven for a half an hour for one and an hour for the other. If you have a cookie sheet you can do roasted potatoes or oven fries. GL!

  • I had bought a whole set of pots and pans en route to Japan, so they were in my luggage :)  Yes, I preferred to be able to cook over having masses of clothing.  And then our temporary lodging had a fully stocked kitchen, so that was a real bonus.

I was not so smart when moving back to Denver, so I really only had one small saucepan.  I bought a few of the oven ready veggie lasagnas from Costco.  Each made enough to last me a few meals.  I do a lot of one pot stuff like yellow rice, add some frozen peas, top with tofu (which you can cook in the oven).  Since it's summer and hot, you can do something like quinoa salad, so the only thing you cook is the quinoa, then you just add chopped fresh veggies and beans.

  • Next time pack a crockpot as well! Those meals are super easy. Like the others said, one pot meals work. Pastas with vegetables, stir fry, and premade frozen meals are the best.

I'm kicking myself that I didn't think to bring mine.  Thanks for the ideas.  I'm putting together a list for a big commissary run

  • You can bake some chicken (or even pork chops, but not in your pasta of course,I mean unless you like them in there, lol.) on the cookie sheet in the oven on 400 for 35-40 mins, and mix it in with some pasta and stuff. Eggs, pancakes and bacon are easy too. Than there is stuff like soups, like grilled cheese and tomato soup. All sorts of things you can do! You can do sloppy joes and tots. Umm, make a turkey sandwich on a begal and put it in the oven for 5 mins and its yummy,

  • Canned soup, sandwiches especially since the weather is warm right now. If the skillet is deep enough pasta and sauce. With the cookie sheet, there's different things from the freezer section like chicken fingers, fish sticks and fries. Premade stuff from the grocery store deli and of course eating out. It's a nice time to get to know the area and it's restaurants.
