I know this isn't the area on the nest for this, but...
I rarely post anywhere other than here, and lately that's been rare too, but I have a question and don't want to get flamed on one of the TTC boards on the bump...I've seen people get flamed over there for some reason.
Anyway, I was just wondering for the mommies, or PG ladies here, what prenatal vitamin you recommend or if anyone had a website with recommendations. We're not pregnant, not really trying either...more like whatever happens happens. Well my ob/gyn wants me on a prenatal just in case and the prescription one he prescribed doesn't look so great from what I've read at least.
Hope no one minds me posting this here...hope someone can help!

Missing our little turkey.
Estimated Due Date 11/13/12 | Natural Miscarriage 4/17/12
No worries! These are what I took through my entire pregnancy and continue to take:

I also take this DHA supplement:

This exactly. Also, they're not expensive.
We're not TTC, but my general practioner said I should be on them for a year before TTC. Don't know why a year (most things I've looked at say 3 months) - maybe because I'm over 30.
Kenna, I had always heard a year.
ETA: I was not over 30 at the time...in fact, I was 13 days short of 30 when he was born...so officially in my 20's

I did a lot of research and I highly recommend the Rainbow Light brand. It is right on target with all the recommended vitamin levels. It is also 100% natural and very gentle on the stomach. I take mine at night right before bed and have never had any problems.
They are available at Target and Walgreens and very affordable.

These are the same as the ones I take. And I agree (and should've put it in my post) that they are very gentle on the stomach...and this is coming from someone whose stomach is very easily upset.
I also take mine right before bed, and only have woken up maybe two or three times a little sick to my stomach, but nothing that a few crackers didn't fix (and it was only because I ate earlier than usual).

Not the Rainbow Light brand. I just recently started taking the Target brand DHA (Up&Up). I didn't see the Rainbow Light DHA at Target. So, yeah, I take 2 pills too and I'm fine with that.

I take the Materna brand. They don't bother my stomach, but nothing really bothers my stomach, so I'm not a good comparison.
I actually complain about the effect I have on my hair and nails, which grew ridiculously fast before I started taking them. Now I can barely keep up!

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermI see. I was just curious. Nosy, maybe, is more like it!
What about everyone else who is taking prenatals? Do any of you take DHA as well? I saw Chelley was asking. Again, just curious...and nosy.
I get in trouble with Chris all the time for asking too many questions
ETA: I know a lot of people take prescription vitamins once they're pregnant because they're cheaper (only $5 or whatever your copay is). Something to keep in mind for all of you who are TTC, or will start at some point. Like I said in my other post, I just liked the Rainbow ones so much that I didn't want to switch.
And all of the samples that I got for the prescriptions included DHA. That's why I'm asking about whether you all are taking the supplement before getting preg.

I know...everyone here is great.
I just feel bad sometimes for just randomly popping in and posting. Silly maybe, but still. I do appreciate all the help on this subject though.
Rainbow Light, I tried the target brand and they made me really sick. I also second taking them at night, that is what I do also. Just be prepared for crazy colored pee in the morning
I guess I should get some DHA, I didn't realize I needed to be taking both. Ooopsies!
I was taking a plant-derived DHA as well, and my doctor told me that you have to be careful because not all plant-derived DHA is monitored for mercury levels and could be just as dangerous as fish-derived. Make sure that it is not from any ocean-based plant. This is what I take for DHA: Expecta Lipil DHA
For my pre-natal I take this: Nature Made Prenatal I took other Nature Made vitamins and they always worked well for me. I don't know that they are any better than others out there, but they seem to absorb well and they don't bother my stomach.
