XP: Help me dress DH for a wedding

We are going to a wedding on the 16th of this month. Its outdoors in the evening. It will at least be 90ish out when the wedding starts at 6. Its semi-formal and I'm wearing this dress.

He has black dress pants and a blazer but E runs warm all the time and if I have him wear that and a long sleeved dress shirt under he is going to be dying of heat.

Thoughts? Ideas? Can he do khakis and a nice shirt? HELP!!!!! Thank you!

  • I absolutely LOVE that dress!

I think khakis and a nice shirt would work fine. You could always do something like this. A light long sleeved shirt and khakis paired with the tie to add a little bit more formality.

  • Why do people have outdoor weddings in the middle of summer in places where it gets that hot? I will never understand that and I will continue to say that breaks the biggest etiquette rule there is: do not make your guests miserable.

Anyway, the fact that it's semi-formal would tend to make me want to say khakis would not be appropriate. Are his dress pants thick/heavy? I think no jacket would be fine. But in the end, if it's going to be that hot, anything goes. He should do whatever he needs to do to be comfortable.

This. Khaki's are too casual. He can go jacket-free for the outdoor portion, but summer-weight slacks rather than khaki. Charcoal, black, or navy. Only.

Grey = morning, khaki in the afternoon.

He should wear a suit, jacket off for the out-door portion.

Okay no khaki's. I think we will do his black dress pants and coat and find a new summery colors dress shirt.

    Thanks for the help ladies.

lol I used to think the same thing when I worked at Wolf Lakes one summer. I remember running around when it was 107, drinking massive amounts of water, and not having to pee once during a seven hour shift.

Seriously! A friend and co-worker of mine got married when it was 105 out, outdoor reception too. The no. 1 thing I remember about her wedding? How miserable it was. We both sweated through our skirt/pants during the loooong ceremony.

  • I agree with everyone else about khakis being too informal so nothing new there.  Just wanted to pop in and say your dress is super cute.

For your DH, be sure to get a lighter colored shirt that won't show sweat stains as obviously.  I'm thinking a nice textured white shirt, pale yellow, maybe a really pale green, etc.  I've had to do this for my sweat-prone DH as well :)

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball
