I applied for a job online Friday. The job website they used did not have the option to upload a cover letter so I immediately emailed it directly to the company expressing my interest and noting my experience. They responded saying they forwarded it to the hiring manager.
I really want this job, but I don't want to come off as too overbearing or annoying. However, it's been posted since June 20 and I've had a terrible time finding a job in this area so I want to be quick if I can.
Would it be ok to call or email them again this week to follow up on my application? I'm assuming they're closed today since it's the 4th. Would tomorrow be too soon since I just applied on Friday, or should I wait until/if they contact me?
Re: How soon should I follow up on my application?
I'd wait a few days or even until next week to send a follow up email. You don't want to seem too desperate but instead excited about the opportunity. I don't think June 20th was a long time ago for a posting. My company is notourously slow in hiring -- it took 3 months between my applying and starting.
Did you get the hiring managers name or email? If yes, I'd send them a message directly.
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice!
Yes, I got the hiring manager's name and email so next time I can write or call her directly. I'll wait until next week like you suggested because I don't want to seem desperate...that's what I was afraid of, lol. Thanks for being honest.
I realize it takes awhile for some companies, which is totally understandable. The only reason why I felt rushed when seeing it was posted June 20 and wanted to jump at the chance was because jobs have been very limited here, and I've been searching for almost a year. Lately it seems like as soon as one is posted, it's filled asap, then immediately taken down within a couple of days. I'm really crossing my fingers that I at least get an interview for this one!
I agree on waiting until next week. Holiday weeks are generally "stall" times for HR departments and hiring. And yes, I'd definitely reach out directly to the hiring manager this time. I'd call them directly and say something like, "I applied online and forwarded my resume and cover letter to HR, but wanted to reach out to you directly to ensure you had my materials and knew how very interested I am in the position."
Good luck!
