Storing woolen sweaters

Hi everybody!

I've been trying and trying... but I always fail. :)

Me, my DH and our both suns have a mountain and a half of thick big woolen sweaters. yes, we wear them. All of them. In winter. But when it is 100? outside, the only LOOK of these sweaters depresses me and I dunno how to store them away. so far they are folded on the shelf. Being covered in dust.

:(

Any ideas???

Re: Storing woolen sweaters

  • I keep my woolens in a cedar chest at the foot of our bed.  The chest doubles as a seat.

Before I had the cedar chest, I used a Space bag (TM?)  which is a plastic bag that you vacuum the air out of.  It cuts the space used in half.  There are a handful of different companies that make them.  Look for ones with double sealed edges as these are more durable.

  • Can you get those under the bed storage containers?  I'm a fan of any kind of rubbermaid-type totes.  Where do you keep them in the winter, can they stay where they are when they're being used?  How about those closet hangers that have a few shelves (generally around 5 or so and are about 12"x12"x4').
  • Store them in a cedar chest if you can, but if you can't, put mothballs in with them.  Moths will eat wool!
