Baby and Solid Food/Milk Order

What order do you feed your kid?  Right now, we feed DS solid and then a bottle.  I was reading and one website said to reverse it.

What do you do?

 Thanks!

Re: Baby and Solid Food/Milk Order

  • We were different.  We fed him alternating.  If he had a bottle at 10, we'd do solids at 11-11:30 and he'd have another bottle on schedule at 1 or 2 (I can't remember how often he ate!).  At such a young age he's not eating a lot of solids.  DS never ate so much that he didn't want a full bottle.

  • RIght now he is eating about 2 tablespoons of solid and then waiting 30 minutes then has a bottle.  And he is fed solids at lunch time at dinner time.  I guess I found it odd they say to offer the bottle first before solids.  I would think the kid would be full before even eating the solid food for that feeding session.
  • We were told to do bottle first, because the formula/breast milk is more important than the solids at this point.

DS is almost 11 months old, and we still do this. He gets a bottle first, and then he gets breakfast/dinner/lunch.

This exactly.  Rice cereal especially, has very little nutrition.  Stage 1 baby food has nutrition, but there isn't much variety.  Formula/breast milk has all the vitamins/calories/nutrition they need, so that's why it's important that they get mostly that.

We do three meals and four bottles a day, and while they're spaced two hours apart, they've always gotten a bottle first.

    Yep!

  • We've always done bottles/nursing sessions on schedule and done solids at our mealtime(s). Sometimes that means milk 30 minutes before, sometimes an hour, whateve
  • Then I may switch.  Our doc didn't say and I don't want to call for that.

    Thanks ladies.
