ugh, neighborhood fireworks

people have been setting them off since 8pm (yes, when it was still light outside!). two and a half hours later they are STILL going off every few minutes. I can tell that it's not all the same people because I'm hearing them go off from all different directions, but you'd think that common courtesy (and sense?) would tell you not to set them off too long after 10pm.

As I'm typing this a series of at least a dozen blasts just went off that were SO loud.

Why does loving America have to be so loud this late at night??

Re: ugh, neighborhood fireworks

  • Ours were setting them off Sunday night til midnight.  I had to get up at 3 for work.

  • I agree with the ugh.  There were some serious explosions going on near our house, and I could only see half from DD's room- where I had to hold her for over half an hour AFTER taking her downstairs to watch some on tv (hoping she would associate the noise with the pretty colors and be less scared).

  • I heard them definitely until 10, and then for a while after that. Luckily LO slept through the noise (I kept Sleep Sheep on for him, though, and I think that drowned it out).

ditto, though up here they were steady until 10 and then started again at midnight.  my dog lost.her.$hit.  between that and those insane storms over the weekend, i think she's ready to be committed or go on some doggie tranquilizers.

  • I dread the 4th of July every year since we moved to our current house 4 years ago. We have a single family home, and the houses in my little neighborhood aren't directly on top of each other, but they are fairly close together. Every single 4th of July the same people that live behind us shoot off fireworks for hours, and they somehow aim them for our backyard, so on July 5 when I take my dogs out in the morning our yard, deck and sometimes roof are littered with fireworks. I don't mind the noise so much when I don't have to get up for work the next morning, but hate it when I have to work the next day, which I did this morning. Luckily last night they all stopped around 10:30, and they aimed for a different yard this time because I didin't find any fireworks in our yard this morning. I am terrified of a fire starting when these fireworks hit our house, that is why I hate them the most. We watched a house across the street completely burn to the ground 2 years ago (not from fireworks, but from electrical issues) and the thought of that happening to my house scares the crap outta me. Luckily, our dogs just ignore the noise.

This. We didn't have any trouble with H sleeping through them, but the dog (who is usually crated overnight) was going beserk and barking. We had to let her out and allow her to sleep in our room for fear SHE would wake up the kid.

  • Our neighbors set some off last night, which was bad enough, but the town postponed its big fireworks show until tonight (why? this makes no sense). So now we get to deal with baby + fireworks for two nights in a row. Oh yay.
