Chicago Trip any suggestions

Andy and I are going to Chicago for our anniversary trip, we are already going to see Wrigley but if you know Chicago or have been there and loved a place let me know! We will have plenty of time to explore! Or any yummy restaurants!

Thanks!

Re: Chicago Trip any suggestions

  • Navy Pier. There is a TON to do. Check out http://www.navypier.com/ This place is awesome!!

Go to the top of the Willis Tower (used to be the Sears tower)

The zoo is pretty good also.

If you want to go shopping, walk down Michigan Avenue. Also check out Woodfield mall if you want to go shopping. (I haven't been there in ages.....may be in a suburb.)

  • Gino's East, get some Chicago style pizza. Sear tower observatory. Buckingham Fountain (it always makes me smile from Married with children). Millennium park has the bean. We usually walk down Michigan ave. Go to water tower place to FAO Sweets. There is also Brookfield Zoo, Shed Aquarium, Museum of science and indrustry.

Ahh so much to do and not enough time... lol I miss Chicago.

  • Definitely check out Michigan Avenue! I've lived in Chicago my entire life and I still love shopping on Michigan. Deb mentioned the Sears Tower observatory (I haven't been there since they remodeled several years ago, but I hear it's awesome), but you can also go to the John Hancock observatory, which is on Michigan.

Millennium Park is great, also. You can start there and then walk straight down Michigan Ave for the shopping.

Lou Malnati's is my favorite Chicago-style pizza. They have restaurants all over the place, but there is one right downtown in the loop (walkable from Millennium Park).

You can also go to the museum campus. Most of the great Chicago museums are right near each other. You can hit the Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry (my personal favorite), and the Shedd Aquarium.

I complain a whole lot about living in Chicago in the winter, but in the summer, I LOVE it! There's so much to do. Let me know if you want any other suggestions!

  • What kind of food do you like?  Do you like live music?  How long will you be here?

I second Lou Malnati's...  or My Pi (the math symbol pi).

Definitely use name your own price on priceline for hotel rooms.  My family usually does this and gets frooms for about $75 along Michigan Ave. I'll check later for the areas we pick.

Instead of going to the observation deck, go for a drink or two at the Signature Room on the 95th floor of the Hancock Building.  You get the great views, and a drink!

What weekend are you going to be here?  There are so many street festivals with live music (both real bands & cover bands).   Old St. Pat's World's Largest Block party is July 15-16 (Plain White Ts on 15th, Barenaked Ladies on 16th), Taste of Lincoln Ave is July 29, 30, 31 (Carbon Leaf & Sister Hazel on Saturday, Scott Lucas- formerly of Local H, on Sunday- along with two people from our wedding band!)

For breakfast (a desert type breakfast):  The Bongo Room.  There is one in the South Loop (Roosevelt & Wabash) and one in Wicker Park.   The pancakes are amazing (but there is usually a bit of a wait).

I miss living in the city!!  We are now out in the burbs, but still a quick train ride away.

  • We are heading down to Chicago as well for our anniversary. We are going this weekend and seeing a Broadway show - Beauty and the Beast. Staying at the Hard Rock Hotel (where we stayed last year for our Minimoon right after the wedding) and then spending Sunday bumming around shopping. I wish we had another day there.

Petterinos is good italian and Ristorante We in the W hotel is delicious. When we went there last year and made reservations that said it was our honeymoon they gave us champagne and a gift bag - I bet they would do the same for an anniversary.

We did all the museums and just bummed around last year. Hopefully the good weather will hold out for this weekend too. :)

  • I've only been there once for a few days but what sticks out in my mind was shopping on Michigan Ave., and hanging out on Navy Pier.

They have a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant on Navy Pier that's fun, and a ferris wheel and other fun stuff.

We did this when we were in Chicago in May '08 for DH's cousin's wedding, and it was so fun!  We went at night, it was cool to see all the city lights twinkling.  The bar was very crowded though.

We are actually going back to Chicago at the end of August to see DH's cousins husband graduate from CRNA school.  I am pumped, we're staying at The Witt hotel downtown.  I know we're planning on going to a basball game, and we are also planning on going to this neat looking hot dog place we saw on HGTV.  We have gotten a lot of ideas for restaurants on HGTV and Wealth TV, they do Chicago specials sometimes.  There's also a Mexican/Latino market DH wants to go to.  Not sure what else we will do, probably a lot of walking around downtown and just being tourists :)
