So that I don't completely bore everyone in the other threads...

DH and I are having a ridiculous time with coming up with names too.  DH doesn't really seem to be taking it seriously or want to talk about it.  I think he's come up with maybe one name on his own, everything else is just saying 'yeah, that's okay' to names I come up with (not exactly a resounding positive response).  I'm a little worried we won't have names before we get to the hospital.

Do you ever wonder about the people that have a couple names picked out and then wait to 'meet' the baby before deciding?  I have absolutely no idea how these people are able to come up with more than one name they both agree on!

Re: **jholbel** (br)

  • I am trying to put off the naming process as long as possible.  I really want to keep the name a secret, but DH isn't totally on board with that.  So I figure that putting it off til the last minute will prevent us from having to hear everyone's opinions.  Everyone is already asking and it's easier just to say we haven't decided yet.

I like the idea of having a couple different names -- but that's even more difficult when you're team green.  I am very methodical and told DH that we both needed to come up with 5 names for each sex and then we'll combine our lists and go from there.  We haven't decided on when we need to have our list of 5 boy/girl names....so I'm not sure how this will all play out.

DH is busy with our home improvement projects.  We're wrapping up the kitchen and bathroom right now, then we're doing hardwood floors and carpet, and then repairing the basement from our flood.  We aren't even going to touch the nursery until September and our shower isn't until September 18th.  So the baby stuff (along with choosing a name) has taken the back burner.

How is everything going for you??  Are you feeling good?  I am really starting to feel the changes in my body.

I am in the process of looking into daycare options.  I am really leaning towards in-home day cares and I've been calling around and figuring out our options.

  • We're not nearly as crazy as you guys are with the whole home improvement thing.  Our basement is done with the exception of DH has to install one last section of lights (it's, like, a 15min job, but he needs to remember to bring home a tool from work).  Hopefully, as of this coming weekend, the nursery will be done.  We still have to buy a crib and glider, but we're waiting until everything else is finished.

We were going to lay hardwood in the kitchen, but DH decided to sell the jeep this summer, so we have to put a little money into that before its ready to list.  I think the hardwood is on the back burner until next year - hopefully before LO is mobile though.

Oh, and I'm pretty much flipping out about daycare.  I don't really know people in the area with kids, so I don't have any recommendations and without rec's is so hard to know where to start.  I have one person at work who is asking her provider if she knows anyone in my area - so hopefully she'll come up with something.  Other than that, I've contacted a few centers, but man, are they expensive!  I'd love to stay home, but we just really can't afford that right now.

I'm feeling pretty good.  Just some heartburn on occasion, really.  I don't know about you, but I've definitely got a kicker on my hands.  Last night it just kept pelting me with what I'm guessing is all of its strength.  It really kind of hurt! :-/  Even when its uncomfortable, I still love it though.  There was a span of about 12 hours where I didn't feel it much over the weekend, and I really missed it.

Have you been taking pictures of yourself?  We just did one this weekend and were looking back at the difference between now and about 12 weeks.  Oh my goodness am I huge!  It had happened so gradually I didn't really notice it so much.

  • Hey girls!  I?m totally butting in?.I hope that?s OK.

We?re TOTALLY struggling with names too! Honestly, we haven?t really talked about it all that much.  Once in a while one of us will throw a name out there that we see on TV or overhear someplace else and then the other vetoes it and that?s the end of the conversation.  And we?re team green too which means TWO names.  Ahhh!

You know we haven?t started to register or work on nursery because of our whole housing debacle but we move into the new house on Friday and have all of next week off.  I?m planning on baby starting to move up our priority list now that we have a roof over our heads and am planning on taking a day off from unpacking next week to get DH to BRU to register.  (We did paint the nursery yellow because I had to pick paint for the new house. We haven?t picked out bedding?.I hope it matches yellow wall paint. I know we did it backwards.)

Keep me updated on the name front! (Not the names if you don?t want to but how you came to your decision!) iPhone has a Baby Names app with lists of more names that you could possibly keep track of.  But sometimes I come across one that I like and save it to my favorites.  I run one past DH every once in a while too.

  • Feel free to butt in!  I just didn't want to bore everyone else with our mid-pregnancy stories.  Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the paint thing.  We don't really have any bedding picked out (we're just going to buy individual stuff and not a set).  But, when we went to buy the paint it was really a pain.  We'd designed the whole thing on one of DH's design programs and took it into home depot.  We tried to match to the colors he had designed, and it was impossible - it's like those colors don't exist in the paint world.  It turned out really good, but nothing like we were planning.  So, the moral of this story is don't worry about painting first.  I'm sure everything will be fine in the end, but its probably not going to turn out exactly like you want anyway.

The way you go about names is pretty much how it goes for us too.  I throw something out and DH either says no or that its 'alright'.  I think he believes that if he avoids it long enough, then he won't have to deal with it.

I hope the move goes good for you guys!  I'm sure you'll love the much deserved week off afterwards!

  • Yeah, we're in a mad rush to get these home improvement projects before baby.  We always knew we wanted to get these things done, but the baby came a bit earlier than expected so it's pushed up our timeline a bit.  It's making these couple of months super-duper crazy, but there is no way I could live through this with a kid!!

I just picked out paint color for the nursery this weekend!  I am doing this bedding (bedding) with a yellow/gold wall color (Yukon Gold).  I ordered a crib and dresser from Babies R Us -- just waiting for it to come in.  It is this set, but in harvest oak.

I don't mind telling you names...when we pick one.  I just don't want to share with all our friends and family because we have already received an abundance of input!!  I joked with Andy that I might not even tell him the name.  Smile

I am feeling a ton of movement.  I have felt a few kicks that are really strong on the outside, but Andy hasn't felt any yet.  They aren't consistently strong and Andy gets impatient after about a minute of waiting to feel something.  I don't think the baby has done any flipping around because most of the movement is really low, which I assume are kicks...and sometimes closer to the belly button which I would imagine are arms.

I started taking pictures at 20 weeks.  It took me until then to be courageous enough.  I am posting them on my blog if you want to take a look.

  • Also BIP -

Regarding daycares......I've called a couple places and the one I've called in my area that has room for 2 infants in January charges $200/week per child.  Is this what you're finding?  This is for an in-home daycare.  I'm flipping out about possibly paying $1600/month for daycare.  We still don't know if we'll be going that route, but whichever way we go is going to cost us a pretty penny.  That's way more than our mortgage payment for crying out loud.

DH's coworker's wife runs an in-home day care and we are gravitating towards her, but we still want to explore our options.  She charges $175/week.  She said most in-home day cares will run about the same, although I haven't called anyone else yet.

Most day care centers I've found have ranged from $250-275 per week.

We are looking for something/someone that might have a little more flexibility as we would be paying her for holidays, sick days, and vacations.  Basically, we only don't pay the 2 weeks of the year that she takes off -- a week in July and a week around Christmas).  So we would be paying 50 out or 52 weeks of the year.

Between vacations, holidays, grandparents, etc., I think I only need about 42 weeks of the year.  I don't think a lot of people are flexible since they are counting on your money for income, but I am looking around.

  • I've also been seeing between $230 - $250 for an infant (I'm only looking for 4days/week).  I haven't contacted a lot of places yet, though.  I can't imagine paying for two kids at once.  I really don't know if I could make myself go to work everyday knowing that I'm only bringing home a small amount after daycare.
