Re: AW Cloth Diaper Score
Sean's co-worker. They knew we CD and his daughter just finished potty training
I like the grovias, but they are stinkin' hard to get poop stains out of! My only other gripe with them is they run really small. They have a fairly low rise and when Anders is going through his "growing out" phases they get kinda tight.
Have you tried double or triple stuffed Bamboo or Hemp for nights? I am in love with Kawaii's goodnights, we double up with bamboo and one micro. Anders is also a heavy wetter-he drank 15 oz of milk ( I kid you not) right before bed last night and the diaper was still holding, full, but holding.
With the pockets I layer a hemp insert (closest to him), followed by a prefold, followed by a micro insert. That is the only way to hold everything in. His butt is so big that I can barely get 18 month clothes to fit him.
I might rethink the grovia's now. I do love my Kawaii's though. They are probably my favorite currently. I should probably just get some more of those since I like them.
What do you stuff your pockets with? I was using just microfiber, but I have having some serious stink issues (amonia) and was told to try prefolds. The stink has gone away for the most part, but the prefolds don't seem to hold that well and I change him every 3 hours.
I stuff with microfiber, bamboo at nights or for trips. Do you have an HE washer? I had a stink issue too until I started playing with my washing methods. I do a rinse on cold, then a sanitary on super hot, and sometmies follow it with a cold rinse. Typically I just hang dry after the sanitary. We use BG and RNG detergent, and RNG makes a funk rock you may want to look into. ecomom.com has pretty good deals on RNG and some CD's.
Oh yeah, and the grovias... they leak faster for Anders. I only use them if we are trying to fit him into something trim.
Have you checked out the CD board on the bump? Some of the women there have really good ideas! Also, check out eBay-there are TONS of diapers in pretty good condition there. Plus, you can often times find some more obscure brands for pretty cheap to try out!
I don't have an HE. I do a cold rinse with no detergent, then a hot wash with RNG (tide now since I ran out of RNG), then a cold rinse again. The microfiber held more so I might try again. I tried stripping them too and they still stunk. I will have to look into the funk rock. It is hard because Rusty complains about the smell and tries to get me back to disposables. The last thing I need is an excuse for him to use disposables.
I have checked out the CD board, but they scare me. Not because they are mean because they aren't, but they are so knowledgeable and I'm scare I will sound stupid.
I will have to check ebay for some Kawaii's. I have bought most of mine from cottonbabies.com and diaperswappers. Thanks for your help.
