Waterproof cameras?

Does anyone have a waterproof/underwater camera?  Jeff and I were thinking about buying one for our upcoming trip, but I'm trying to search online and tearing my hair out - most of the results aren't actually for underwater cameras at all, which is frustrating.  I just want something reasonably good, and reasonably priced.  I'm finding nothing!

Re: Waterproof cameras?

  • I just posted about this on the Travel board last week and got some good responses.  If you search down the page a bit, you should find it.  Let me go see if I can find it and link it...

Basically after reading all of those, though, I decided to buy the waterproof case that goes with our regular camera.

  • Thanks, Rachel - I'll check it out!

Did the waterproof case work for your camera?  No leaks?

  • Haven't gotten it yet.  I read really good reviews about the canon housing on Amazon and other sites, and a couple of people on the other thread recommended it, so I decided to go with that one.  I probably won't order it until a little closer to our trip in September, though.

What kind of camera do you have?

  • We have two - mine is a konica minolta something-or-other; it has an optical zoom so can't zoom much, but it has a really slim profile so we use it when we don't need awesome pictures. His is a nice Panasonic Lumix (not sure which one).  I'm a little nervous about just buying a waterproof case, which is why I asked!

  • I used a waterproof case for mine when I went to the Bahamas a few years ago and it was okay (Panasonic Lumix camera) but my BFF who went with me, got a nicer one exactly for her camera and her pics came out fabulous. I recommend finding the one that would fit your camera perfectly.

  • Well I was looking at waterproof cases, and they run around $150 or more.  For that, I just bought a waterproof Panasonic Lumix that had pretty good reviews on Amazon.  So I guess we'll see how it turns out!
