Trading in a car to dealership ?

So we traded in DH's car back in February when we bought the van (at Baxter).  Just last week I got the plate renewal notice in the mail.  Shouldnt they know we dont own it anymore, or is this normal?  Do i just ignore it?

Re: Trading in a car to dealership ?

  • Dh sold his truck in April and we got the plate renewal in May. I just tossed in since I knew the dealership had the title. Not sure if the system is slow or if we are supposed to let them know we don't own it - I hope not!
  • You can just ignore it. But in the future if you take your plates in, you can get credit back from the old plates (prorated).  I am surprised the person at the DMV did not ask you, if you traded a vehicle in.

It was going to be like $20, not worth the trip there IMO. :)

You have a good memory!  Yeah, called me about 2 hours later while i was sitting there getting my hair did to tell me they accidentally told me the wrong total and I owed them $20.  Bastards.

So, they wont come after me if I throw it away?  Good to know. :)

When I plated my car last year I got a letter the next day saying I owed them $10. I was pissed! Especially since I had already paid them over $1,000 for sales tax and plates.
