Re: baby gates
There are tons of baby gates that just use tension to close just look through the diff websites and you will find them.

this is the one we have and although it only got 3 stars on BRU, I've have had no problems with it and like it. We use the tension version at the bottom and screwed it in at the top.

I have 2 tension gates at my parents for the bottom stairs and kitchen.
For my house we have the one Jenn has for our kitchen entrance. J is NOT allowed in kitchen unless in highchair.
We have this one: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2265804 in our basement to separate the TV/playroom from the tile room - was bought for the dogs to keep out but serves both purposes. We only need the one side + door for that space but the space was too big for everything else. This one goes to 144inches.
I wouldn't really worry about a gate at your parents right now, your due in Sept and will have months before crawling.
thanks for the suggestion ladies! im gonna look into these.
we're actually doing it at my parents because i have little cousins who go up and down the stairs all the time. it worries my dad so he wants a gate up when they come over.

I just got 2 tension gates for the deck. I have 3 screwed in ones in the house but needed something moveable for outside and the bottom of the playroom stairs.
