Work Benefits

Just curious what type of benefits your work offers (If you are a SAHM you can answer what benefits DH gets).

-Does your work provide a health insurance plan? Is the premium you pay reasonable?

-Do they offer a dental plan?

-Do they offer short term disability pay/maternity leave pay?

-How much vacation or pto time do you get? Are you able to bank that year to year?

  • -Does your work provide a health insurance plan? Is the premium you pay reasonable? Yes, and its good insurance but the premium is outrageous.  It's expensive enough that I have it for myself but Audrey is under DH's insurnace.

    -Do they offer a dental plan? Yes, but its pretty much worthless.

    -Do they offer short term disability pay/maternity leave pay? STD, yes through Aflac.  Maternity leave, no.  We have to use our built up PTO.

    -How much vacation or pto time do you get? Are you able to bank that year to year?  I accrue about 2.5 days/month, which is great - but I've worked here a long time so its built up.

  • - We have a health insurance plan through BCBS.  My district covers the cost of a family premium. (Huge, huge bonus there)

    - Our dental premium is covered, family is not without some out of pocket.  DH's family dental is cheaper, so we use his employer for E's dental.

    - Not sure on the short term disability, but we have unlimited sick days, so maternity leave is covered under that.  They cover 6 weeks at full pay, then we can take 6 more through FMLA unpaid. 

    - I'm a teacher so we get the typical times off.  We do not, however, get any 'free' days off while school is in session.  We have 1-2 personal days, but they have to fit in the list of reasons provided like a funeral, signing on a house, etc.  If we want a day off just to be off, it's unpaid.  

     

    For DH:

    - They do offer health insurance.  Not sure what the premium was just for him, but for him and E it was around $240 per month, which is reasonable.  This was before my family coverage kicked in. 

    -  The do offer dental, like above, it's cheaper than my insurance, so we use it for DH and E.

    - I have no clue on the long term disability/maternity for him.

    - I think he gets 30 days per year.  He is only able to roll over 15 per year, so they don't accumulate.  He also works from home from time to time, his job is very flexible day/hour wise.   

  • -Does your work provide a health insurance plan? Is the premium you pay reasonable?  Yes, for a single plan it is okay, we have dh and Elsie under a private policy.  It's cheaper that way.   

    -Do they offer a dental plan?  Yes, but we just got it and I didn't sign up to participate.

    -Do they offer short term disability pay/maternity leave pay?  I am not sure on the STD, but they do not offer maternity leave pay (ha!).

    -How much vacation or pto time do you get? Are you able to bank that year to year?  I can't remember when you get 1 week, but at 2 years I believe you get 2 weeks and at 10-years 3 weeks PTO, plus 2 sick PTO days per year.  You can bank 40 hours each year unless you have a specific thing you are saving for (i.e. maternity leave).

    So, when your vacation time is up, you are SOL, and no check?  I just found out a few months back my company only pays us 1/2 of our commission draw (which is not horrible but not something I would ever want to live off of).

    -Do they offer a dental plan? Yes and vision

    -Do they offer short term disability pay/maternity leave pay? Yes.  I think paternal leave is paid 2 weeks but haven't looked into it too much yet.  They offer short-term is up to 26 weeks at 100% pay, long term is up to 60% of annual salary

    -How much vacation or pto time do you get? Are you able to bank that year to year? 3 floating holidays (cannot carryover), 6 occasional/sick days (can carryover up to 6 days), 15 vacation days (cannot carryover)

    -How much vacation or pto time do you get? Are you able to bank that year to year?  5 hours per paycheck, so 10 hours per month.  Max out at 3 weeks and it carries over, but if you hit 3 weeks, you stop accruing.

     

  • -Does your work provide a health insurance plan? Is the premium you pay reasonable? Yes they do provide insurance but I work part time so I am on my husband's insurance. He is military so we don't pay for anything.-Do they offer a dental plan? yes-Do they offer short term disability pay/maternity leave pay? they do offer paid maternity leave-How much vacation or pto time do you get? 10 hrs PTO per month and 10 hrs Sick leave per month Are you able to bank that year to year?  yes you are able to take leave to the next year however there is a limit on how much you can take.

  • -Does your work provide a health insurance plan? Is the premium you pay reasonable? -- The district pays the employee's premium. After 4 years, they pay 60% of the family premium. We have BCBS and it's great coverage.

    -Do they offer a dental plan? -- yes, it's okay. Not super expensive, but not the best coverage.

    -Do they offer short term disability pay/maternity leave pay? -- We pay into long term disability, but everything else, including maternity leave, is just our sick time or unpaid with FMLA.

    -How much vacation or pto time do you get? Are you able to bank that year to year? -- We get 10 days a year sick time (8 of these days can be for family illness) and 2 personal days. The sick time can carry over, but personal days do not.

    - Yes he has a health ins plan. The premium for the good ins sucks so we have the crappy kind. Though really the good ins isn't much better than the crappy one.

    - They have a dental plan. DH refuses to pay for it so we have no dental ins and I have a tooth ache. Yes, I'm pissed about it.

    - Pretty sure they have an STD plan

    - I think DH gets 2 weeks/year, he can carry them over up to a certain amount.

    I'm a temp right now so I get nothing, but here's what I had when I made the supremely stupid decision to leave a good job of 10 years, 3 years ago:

    - Yes, and good health insurance. Premium wasn't too bad. Hardly noticed it in my paycheck. When I was single I had enough credits that they paid me to take the ins.

    - Yep dental plan and a good one

    - Yes, STD plan but no separate maternity leave pay 

    - I got around 20 days per year but again, I was there for 10 years. That included sick time though. We were allowed to carry over up to 20 days/year (30 if you lived in California). When I was there you got extra vacation "splash" for every 5 years you were there, but they have since taken that away b/c they got bought out last year.

On the old insurance, we had infertility coverage - on bcbs, we have none - so that has sucked. The premium is cheap though, but with every contract they fd negotiates, we pay way more in premium, and get less stuff.

    -Do they offer a dental plan?yep. Basically covers 2 visits a year, and then a certain % of dental work - all depending on what it is - of course they dont cover cosmetic things.

    -Do they offer short term disability pay/maternity leave pay? disability - on the job injury - yes. Off the job injury - it comes from your vacation/sick time, unless they can put you on light duty (office crap) - thats always an option if you can do it, and they have room for you. But we have supplemental disability insurance through the pfia. No maternity leave - it just comes out of sick time or vacation accrual.

    -How much vacation or pto time do you get? Are you able to bank that year to year? I dont know what dh gets exactly, but when I was on the fd, I would get 2 "picks" - meaning, 2 3day sets of vacation. The longer you are there, the more vacay you get.

    I have family that works for Dist66 and I've always thought that they lived waaaay better than any teachers I ever knew. Heck - if we had the $500 extra a month that we pay in insurance (roughly) and I actually got paid during my maternity time we'd be sitting mighty pretty too. Sheesh. Those are some ridiculous benefits. I'm totally teaching in the wrong district. It's amazing how different each district can be when the job is the same and it's all publically funded.

The premium is super reasonable, $104 per month for DD & I (this was before I got married), but the plan was crap. Last year the plan had a $4000 deductible, and EVERYTHING went to the deductible. Not just hospital stays and medical equipment and stuff, not even my yearly was covered. Worst plan I've ever had. This year was a little better, only a $1500 deductible, but still crap. I just moved to DH's plan which costs us about $260 per month for family coverage including dental and vision,

    -Do they offer a dental plan? My work does not. DH's does.

    -Do they offer short term disability pay/maternity leave pay? My work doesn't offer either, DH's offers STD pay for him

    -How much vacation or pto time do you get? Are you able to bank that year to year? I get 10 days per year to be used as vacation AND sick time (...yeah...) and I can carry 5 days over per year, but having a child I never get to carry time over since I have to use my "vacation" to take her to doctor's visits and such.

    -Does your work provide a health insurance plan? Is the premium you pay reasonable? I don't know what "reasonable" is but we pay around $500 a month and I'd say it's pretty good coverage. I know several people with better coverage but it's by no means bad.

    -Do they offer a dental plan? yes. They cover 2 visits a year and 50% of anything that's not routine. For me that's crap since in the past two months I've spent about $1,700 in dental work. (ouch!) For my husband who was born with awesome teeth it's great.

    -Do they offer short term disability pay/maternity leave pay? No maternity leave. We pay $25 a month in disability insurance which covers up to 6 weeks of maternity. 

    -How much vacation or pto time do you get? Are you able to bank that year to year? I get 11 days per year to use as I please. I get to bank them. I'm supposed to be able to use those days to be paid for times such as maternity leave but that didn't happen for me when I took maternity leave  so I'm just out. Big :-(.

    -Do they offer a dental plan? Yes, although I haven't seen a "good" dental plan yet in my life.

    -Do they offer short term disability pay/maternity leave pay? Yes.  We get 6 weeks at 70% or 8 weeks at 70% depending on c/s, v-birth.  We can take up to 12 total through FMLA, with the remaining being covered by vacation/PTO or unpaid.

    -How much vacation or pto time do you get? Are you able to bank that year to year?  I accrue something like 3.3 hours a pay check, up to 2 weeks a year.  We also get 5-6 days PTO depending on how floating holidays fall

    Although 70% was kind of shocking to see on a paycheck while on my first maternity leave here, I am thankful that we have the benefits.  I can't say I wouldn't mind the Canadian benefit of 55% for a year though rather than my 8 weeks :)  I am so not a fan of the general American "standard" of maternity leave with no pay, it's unfortunate.
