PCSing to Ft Lewis next week!

Hi Everyone! I'm new to TheNest and actually new to active duty life, as my husband went active duty last year from being in the guard for years. We also got married last August so I have been doing quite a bit of adjusting during our first year of marriage. Today is his last day of training at Campbell and we are doing a full DITY to Lewis next week with a 26 foot Penske truck, two POVs and a 3 month old puppy! YIKES!

I have never been to the west coast, he and I both grew up in the midwest and he has only been to Lewis for training about six years ago. I know nothing about the area but have only heard that it rains there...A LOT! We have signed our lease site unseen but I literally do not know a single soul west of Texas and wondered if any of you have been/are currently stationed there and if you could recommend cool places to go or things to do. Just me and DH and our little furball so I don't need info about schools or anything just cool places to visit or eat would be nice! Thanks in advance!

Re: PCSing to Ft Lewis next week!

  • There is a lot to do in the Lewis area, especially if you are into outdoor things. There are beaches, ski resorts, casinos, hiking/biking/walking trails, boating and a few great cities within a few hours drive. Seattle is only 50ish minutes away and offers anything a large(ish) city can offer. Vancouver BC is 3 hours North and Portland is 3 hours South.

What town will you be living in? The area is quite large and rather spread out so I would be able to narrow down my list of places for you to try depending on where you will be located. If you're not comfortable posting that info on a public board, PM me and I can give you details.
