IBS

This is going to end up a mini rant... back in 2007 around the time I began taking BCP I started having really bad troubles with IBS. I had bad bloating that came with horrible abdominal pains. The bloating got to the point where I was being asked on a weekly basis how far along I was, so I ended up going to my doctors and going through several tests (barium swallow, colonoscopy etc.) just to be told that they couldn't find anything, so it must be IBS.

Around the time we got married my symptoms got a little better, and then they almost completely went away after I stopped taking the pill in October 2009. We got pregnant in March 2010 and although I bloated pretty bad at the beginning, I only had one IBS 'attack' throughout my pregnancy.

FF to now, I have started bloating really bad again, and have been having bad abdominal pains for about a week now. I'm not on BCP (which is what I had assumed was the cause), I haven't changed my diet, and I exercise way more (which is supposed to help). Yesterday while taking mat pics of one of my friends she told me 'if I didn't know better I would think you had another one on the way' ...

I am so frustrated with all of this. I don't want it to start again and I don't even know where to start looking for relief of my symptoms. My doctors didn't listen to me last time and I doubt that they would listen to me this time.... ugh, sorry fr the rant, I just need to get it off of my chest. I just don't know what to do about all of it :(

Re: IBS

  • I get the exact same things, bloating, cramping, so annoying! My FNP has me take Miralax every day. I'm not perfect about it and sometimes slack off and don't, but I noticed when I do take it every day, I feel 10x better. It is technically for constipation, but my FNP told me it will just help to clear everything out in a timely, regular manner and keep it from getting irritable. ha.

I'll look into that. I wonder if I can take it while I'm breastfeeding

FWIW Mags was on Miralax starting at like 3 months for her constipation (she was on a prescription before that), so I would assume it is safe to take while BF. She wasn't on an adult dose, but it is safe for babies. I hope it helps you or you find relief some other way!
