If you are planting a "fall garden"...

what veggies are you planning on planting?  I'm thinking about asking DH to build ours this fall and we'll plant some fall/winter veggies.

  • Not entirely sure yet, but I have this list on hand that I'd figure I'd share while we wait on Almond to chime in with her gardening wisdom.  We're in Region III.

Wow - Fall Squash Aug 10? That seems crazy to me.

  • We are for sure doing broccoli, replanting butternut squash after we give the vine borers time to get out, carrots, garlic, and shallots.
  • I'm definitely planning on doing broccoli and spinach.  I think we're also going to try corn again (we got some, but then it just got too hot too fast).  Potatoes again, tomatoes, probably some squash.

Duchess - from what I've read, you should be safe to replant whenever on the squash.  The adult vine-borers should have died off by now, so supposedly you don't have to worry about re-infestation.

I use almost all Aggie lists too.  They are fantastic at what they do.  I think other than Jax I'm the furthest south but I border between zones 3 & 4 on this list.

My garden for the fall looks almost exactly like my garden for the summer minus the melon plants (watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber).  Our fall is basically just summer 2.  I've already started seeds for my tomatoes and peppers- all kinds (they will grow until the first hard freeze.  I wait a bit longer on lettuce & spinach.  This summer has just been so crazy hot that I won't waste my seeds yet.  I'm so frickin cheap.
