XP: commute and suggestions please
DH has a final interview with a company in Annapolis Junction. We currently live in Clarendon until our lease is up in Nov. The commute is going to suck until we move. He was told his hours are flexible, so he could do 730-430 which may help a little. How long will the commute be at those times? Which route would be the best?
I am getting ahead of myself since he hasn't received a final offer yet, but I am just wondering if it is going to be so bad that he should take this other job that is closer. The job in Annapolis is prob. better for his future. Also, I work at Farragut West/North and we only have one car so I need to be onthe red, orange or blue line. Where would be a good central location for us in DC? I love Clarendon and being able to have everything within a few blocks of walking. Any recommendations? Again I am just looking into options since there are two jobs he is a finalist for. TIA!
Re: XP: commute and suggestions please
we live near logan circle and are really happy there. it's not cheap but we really like being very centrally located (especially since we don't have a car), you'd be able to walk to your office from that area. i'd also look into capitol hill/eastern market area, you'd have a an easy metro commute and hopefully that would hopefully make the drive a little easier on DH. if we leave our neighborhood, it would most likely be for eastern market, we really like it there.
HTH!
I sometimes drive to work and I have found that 395 is really not that bad in the morning - traffic keeps moving which is nice. So for now, I would suggest he take 395 to 295 (Balt-Wash parkway) to 50 East.
If you are looking to move into the city to make his commute a bit easier, I would suggest looking in Cap Hill or Eastern Market. Close to the highway and not a bad commute for you. Plus there is lots that is walkable or a short driving distance. If I were going to live in the city (would need to ditch DH or he would have to ditch his guns), it would definitely be in Capitol Hill.
All this! I used to live in Capitol Hill and loved it so much! I work in between Meade and Belvoir now and my commute sucks so much! I would rec you both either live close to your job, his job, or Silver Spring as a middle ground.
