I'm shocked - only that I wanted so badly for her to be held accountable for what I feel like I know she did.
I'm not shocked that the jury had enough 'reasonable doubt' because the trial was a complete shitshow.

Not shocked. A bit annoyed, but definitely not shocked. They didn't prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt. They proved she's a bad mother and a liar, but not a murderer beyond a shadow of a doubt.
I also think it's easy to forget that some things cannot be proven. We're so used to watching CSI and Bones and all these shows with fancy-schmancy forensic science, some of which is complete fiction. It's not always possible to know the exact time and cause of death. And ultimately, I think that's what cost the prosecution the case. If they could have proven a time or cause of death, they would've been better off for a conviction.
This is basically how I feel.
It seems like OJ all over again ... common belief is that the defendant is guilty, but gets off pretty much scot free.

This was my exact prediction for the outcome.
I think the prosecution only proved beyond a reasonable doubt that someone murdered her. I think they only proved that that someone might have been her mother.

This. I mean... there are a few options:
She KNEW her child was dead and didn't care.
She killed her child and didn't want to get in trouble.
She had no clue where her child was for a full month.
Any of those should be considered child abuse or at least child neglect. I don't understand. It just makes me so incredibly sad that a little girl is dead without any justice.

Yep, totally this, and I have been saying all along that the trial was an absolute shitshow. I'm still bummed that she'll prbobably walk free Thursday morning after her sentencing and I cringe at the thought of her getting knocked up again
The whole situation disgusts me but as one of my good friends said (who is a lawyer), "Not guilty" is not necessarily the same thing as "innocent".
The prosecution didn't fully prove, without a doubt, that Casey murdered her daughter. Of course based on the circumstantial evidence, I think we can all agree that there was more than enough there to convince a lot of people of her guilt, but there was a glimmer of doubt somewhere that the jury could find plausible.
That being said - I hope that karma catches up with her someday. What a horrible person.
I thought this scenario was a likely possibility, but I never thought she would only get charged with lying to police. She was obviously being neglectful by not reporting that her child was missing for a whole f-ing month! If it really was someone else that killed her, I think it would have helped to know right away that she was gone. Amber alerts have proven to be effective.
It sucks that this is the outcome. We will never know what happened, and it sickens me that she will probably be able to make money off of this AND the fact that she could pro-create again!!
I wonder what will happen when she is released. Are her parents going to take her in?! Does she want to go back to her parents? Can you imagine if you were one of her friends...what now?

I have been thinking about all of this too, but she could totally write a tell-all book and admit it since they can't convict her of it now. My morbid curiosity would totally read that book, sick, I know. I also want to know if her parents are going to take her in after she totally dragged them through the mud in court. I believe her parents left the courtroom immediately, right? I bet they won't talk to her for awhile. Until of course she makes money off her book/movie/fame etc.
Like how OJ apparently *finally* confessed everything to Oprah? Because, well, he can. That's crap, too, IMO. I understand the reasoning behind the Double Jeopardy laws, but I feel like you negate that 'protection' when you openly confess to a crime.

I wasn't shocked by the verdict,I had watched a segment on Dateline (or similiar show) where they ran the evidence by a mock jury, and the jury found her not guilty of 1st degree murder.
But verdict did surprise me somewhat, because while the evidence was clearly circumstantial and not the best, other people have been convicted with even weaker evidence.
This became such a high profile case, it seemed that the jurors chose to err on the side of caution rather than convict.
