what are some fun, but not painfully stupid chick lit books for vacation?

  • I just read Tiger in the Kitchen by Cheryl Tan. It was okay - not really chick-lit,  but a nice fast read (memoir about learning her family's recipes.)

  • Have you read any of Nicholas Sparks Books? What about Mariah Stewart FBI Thrillers books? I also like Kate White, she writes mystery books too.

  • The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.

I've just started reading another series by Charlaine Harris (the woman that writes the True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse books) - Aurora Teagarden series. They're murder mysteries.  Edited to say I'm reading the third book now, and I've yet to see a vampire, werewolf, or mindreader if that's something that you don't like reading about.

I'm not a huge Nicholas Sparks fan, but I think they make good vacation reads.

I just read Lovely Bones. It was a good, fast read. I also read Bossypants. It was funny, if you haven't read it yet.

I was just going to recommend Bossypants also.  I finished it up this morning and found it to be an easy read with lots of funny parts that I found myself laughing out loud too while obtaining looks and glares from people around me who had no clue why I was laughing.  I'm a big Tina Fey fan.  She has a way with words.

  • I like stuff by Jane Green and Lauren Weisberger!
  • I am currently reading Jarrettsville by Cornelia Nixon.  It's not as chick lit as the Nicolas Sparks books I typically read, but I've read them all and the local history aspect of Jarrettsville peaked my interest.
  • Nicholas Sparks makes me stabby.

My recommendations can be found here, but to summarize: I like Jane Green, Kristin Hannah (though hers tend to be tear-jerkers), most of Nora Robets' stuff (her Brides Quartet is my favorite in recent years, but I liked her older stuff more), Laura Kleypas and Barbara O'Neal.

  • Jane Green or Jennifer Weiner
