BR: Group orientation

I'm going next week to get set up with a new OB and I have to go to a 2 hour group orientation at the Naval hospital.  Has anyone been to one of these?  I don't know what to expect and I'm a little nervous because I'll be going alone.

It's absolutely nothing to worry about.  at the one i attended, the focus was on making sure everyone had their pnvs, that high risk patients had been flagged, paperwork, and signing people up for wic.  and for some reason i cannot capitalize anything from my phone today.

Thanks.  Was yours a large group? The lady on the phone told me I didn't need to bring anything extra with me except for my paper copy of my OB records.  Does that sound right?

  • Group orientation is the whole reason I've avoided going for my first prenatal visit.

Yes, I suck at parenting my embryo. Already.

Ugh, is it going to suck really bad?

  • At our base, you're required to attend a group orientation before you can get your referral to an obgyn (they're all off base here). Mine was no big deal--just an hour and a half with four other girls, mostly making sure we all had the proper paperwork and whatnot like PP said.

ETA: And, like everyone else said, it was terribly boring. I was tempted to channel 5th grade and start drawing flowers and bubble letters on the papers they gave me just to pass the time. But 90 minutes later, it was all over and I got the referral I needed, so whatever.

I doubt it. I just have an irrational hatred for the hoops tricare makes you jump through sometimes to get care. I also have two children, 7&9 who I do not relish making sit in a waiting room for more than two hours to hear crap I already know first hand.

I'm the weirdo. You should go and tell me to stop being such a damned stubborn heifer. Besides, as far along as you are, you need to be going to your regular appointments by now.

  • I had to go before my first OB appt and it was boring. They went over our charts, had us fill them out, and then went over our bloodwork results individually. Basically it's a "Congratulations! You don't have any STDs or HIV!"

Mine also took a brief family history and started the referral process for genetic counseling/testing based on neural tube defect history. This was the most useful part of the orientation.

A series of agencies came by like WIC, Family Advocacy, etc. It was supremely boring. Sorry! :)

  • I wonder if they'll make me do bloodwork since I'm handcarrying a paper copy of my records.  Two hours just seems painful but I have a smartphone so I can amuse myself if there's down time.

When I called yesterday I had a hard time getting the point across that I'm transferring in and that I've already been receiving OB care.  The nurses thought I just found out I was pregnant and were freaking out since I haven't had a period since February.
