Middle name help

We are probably going to name our daughter Juliet (our 2nd choice name is Aubrey) but we are still stuck on a middle name.  My husband's family has a tradition of the first girl in each generation getting the middle name Louise.  Now some of his cousins have already had girls and they chose not to carry on the tradition so my husband wants us to do it, but I'm not sure about the name Louise.  I like the tradition aspect and I think it's an okay name but it's not my favorite...and I know that middle names are not used very often and we don't have any other ideas yet.

So any thoughts about Juliet Louise (or Aubrey Louise)? Yay or nay? Or any other middle name suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Middle name help

  • I don't have an issue with Louise although I like Juliet Louise better than Aubrey Louise.

Have you gone through the typical:  Mary, Elizabeth, Anne, Jean, Katherine, etc?  What about mother's or grandmother's names?

You just have to practice yelling it out and see what flows better for when they are in trouble (I always got the "Elizabeth Leigh!" when I was in big trouble!)

  • I personally love Louise, but a) I'm biased because we're using is as one of our girl's middle names and b) it's my Mom's middle name and the reason we're using it.

I agree with practice yelling it, lol.

  • I actually really like that middle name. I like Juliet Louise best. The names fit nice together.
  • I like the name Juliet, but I'm of course partial to the name Aubrey. Wink

I think both names could go with the middle name Louise, but I don't think that you should feel pressured to carry on the tradition if you don't really like the name. Is there maybe another family name that you could use? You could still honor someone, but with a name that you feel more comfortable with.

My Aubrey's middle name is Susana, after my Mom, Susan (who goes by Sue). Lots of people call my DD Aubrey Sue, so although middle names aren't always used, you might want to make sure it's a name that you like! Smile

  • I really like Juliet Louise, it's a beautiful, classic name.

However, if you're looking for other middle name suggestions I'll throw some out that I like  - what about Rose, Mae or Grace?

I like the idea of practice yelling it - I was always called "Sarah Catherine!" when I was in trouble, and my godfather calls me Sarah Catherine regardless :)

  • I thought I was going to be totally original and suggest Louise because I have a friend who named one of her twins Juliet Louise!!!  How funny.  I love it, it's a really cute name.

Both of our kids have names that are from other family members, I love that we're following a tradition and honoring those who came before us.

  • Thanks for the feedback!  I think Juliet Louise is growing on me but I'm still not ready to commit. I just tried yelling it out loud and it does have a pretty nice flow (it goes pretty well with our last name too.)  Maybe I'll toss around some of the other suggestions to my husband tonight to see what he thinks too.  Names are tough!

I meant to write that in my previous post. It flows really nice with your last name. I think your H will love it!

  • I like Juliet Louise.  I think it is a pretty, classic name.
  • I am biased to Louise. It was my middle name (before change my mn to my maiden name) and it's DD's middle name.   I think Juliet Louise sounds great together.  But if you don't love it, then don't feel you need to follow tradition.

    Haha, that is so true!

  • I'm glad to see all of the positive reactions to Juliet Louise! Most likely we are going to stick with it.  I think part of my problem was when I first told one of my best friends the name she had a negative reaction and I let that get to me too much.

  • Then the other thing to think about is what your last intial is.  Hopefully it's not O otherwise she would be J. Lo!

  • lol at J. Lo.  Luckily it's not an O.

  • I read the post title, read the first 2 lines and instantly thought Juliet Louise.  Big Smile  Then I read on and realized Louise is actually up for discussion between you and your H.  I really like the name Juliet Louise.
