Casey Anthony

Anyone else outraged at the verdict?  I didn't follow the trial that closely, but from everything I heard on the news, it sounds like she was very lucky to be acquitted.  Regardless, I just can't believe she would let her child go missing for a month and not report it.  Hopefully, she will get the help she needs.

Re: Casey Anthony

  • I can't believe she walked - I am outraged too.  But I'm confident that she will get what's coming to her eventually.  I think karma is going to be a real *** in her case.

  • I honestly didn't expect her to be charged and found guilty of murder - the evidence just wasn't there for that. But the fact that she will basically walk without even a charge of neglect makes my blood boil. My guess is that she'll be found dead of an overdose in the near future, but not before someone gives her a book deal.

  • I'm upset and I think the jury made a mistake, but I'm not entirely surprised.  The prosecution's evidence was almost entirely circumstantial and a lot of juries want to see physical evidence.  It didn't help that the prosecution was seeking the death penalty, either. I can see why the jury would be hesitant to convict on 1st degree murder considering they then would have had to make a life or death decision (although there definitely was evidence of premeditation).  But I would think they would have at least got her on manslaughter.

Also, I think the defense's method of "let's throw enough BS out there to confuse everyone" worked on this jury.

  • I'm with Mandee on this one. I'm not shocked that she wasn't convicted of 1st degree murder, but I did expect her to be found guilty of a lesser charge. I honestly didn't follow the case that closely until the end of the trial, but she is one crazy person. The fact that she was out partying right after her daughter went missing is unfathomable to me.
  • I'm not really surprised. From what I read about the trial, a lot of the evidence was circumstantial. What a lot of people forget is that you have to prove murder beyond a reasonable doubt, and I just don't think the prosecution did that. The defense did a good job of creating reasonable doubt for the murder charge, but I'm furious that she wasn't at least found guilty of neglect.

  • I am outraged that she wasn't at least found guilty of neglect I mean really? how do you not report your child missing for 31 days?

Well, child neglect wasn't a crime she was charged with.  By the time the trial started, she had changed her story and admitted she was trying to cover up the "accidental drowning" death, rather than the missing child story.
