Possibly dumb q: How do I get a mirror off the wall?
This may be a very dumb question...but i'll risk it for the sake of home decor. I want to change out the plate mirror in my bathroom for a new one I bought, but the thing is stuck to the wall so well I can't figure out how to get it off without either damaging the wall or having a bloody mess...Am I missing something?

if you do this please wear gloves! the kids' mom cut the bajeezas out of her hand removing a mirror in their bathroom.
man, i think abby q dealt with this in her old house. that sticky stuff is ridiculous.

Definitely use some type of tape (duct, painter's, masking, etc.), then you can use a hammer to break it up before trying to pull it off the wall.

They probably used liquid nails, so it's going to be a big PITA.
Putting picture frame molding around it might give you the look you want without being nearly as difficult as taking it down.
We removed the mirror in our guest bath a few months ago during our reno - the builder did use liquid nails but we just had to break the caulk seal around the mirror with a utility knife and were able to gently pry the entire mirror off the wall in one piece. If you haven't already, I'd give that a try - you might get lucky and save yourself the mess!

ha, i'm thinking the same thing.
in our "fancy" powder bath we have a framed mirror but all of our full bathrooms that will be used by us/our kids have the big corner to corner, counter to ceiling mirrors.
DH actually had the builder one in our first house replaced with a bigger one so that it went all the way to the ceiling (he's also 6'6" and couldnt see himself without bending down)
The dining room in our old house was chair-rail-to-ceiling mirrors. We put a bunch of masking tape on the front and gently pried each one off with pry bars. Only 1 out of the 6 broke... and then I sold the other 5 on craigslist
We lost dry wall in the areas that had globs of construction adhesive but we patched it pretty easily. Good luck!
Isn't it held on with mirror clips at the top and bottom? Mirror clips are the small pieces of metal that fold around the edge. The ones on top you should be able to slide up, or sometimes they put plastic mirror holder on top that you can just screw off. We had to change out the clips at the old house because they were rusting out and we wanted to frame it. Framing it with molding made a fabulous improvement!
And if you use glue to rehang the mirror, they make mirror adhesive. I bought it because I assumed that other adhesives might make the mirror desilver.

They're dated and aren't good as decor? I think they're not so bad when they're in a bathroom but I they're pretty useless in other rooms. When we bought our first house, we looked at a bunch of older houses. Mirrors, mirrors everywhere.
Except for the master bath, we either ditched them or framed them to give them some definition. The frame makes all the difference in the world in a bathroom! And it's such a cheap DIY project.

This is probably going to be one of those projects that ends up getting put off...lol. I wouldn't do it in my master bath bc like above mentioned, we need the big mirror. I was to do this in our guest bath. I was going to frame it myself, but I found a framed mirror the same size at Ross for a lot cheaper.
